London with 5 year olds

We'll spending a few days in London with our 5 year old twins and teenage dds, and would like to take them to a west end show, any suggestions for something that the whole family will like?
Also what are your favourite places to go with little children? (We have been to Science and Natural History museums)

Thanks!

My 10 year old (and me!) saw School of Rock earlier this year and it's probably one of the best shows we've ever seen. If you do go, don't worry about getting expensive seats as you can see equally well from the whole theatre.

We like the Diana memorial park with the big pirate ship to run off a bit of steam, and go and get cakes from Harrods then eat them by the Diana fountain which is full of kids paddling and lovely on a warm day.

Thanks Rioja

Would you say School of Rock would be suitable for 5 year olds too?

There are loads of kids in it, and my neighbour just took her 7 year old...but I have a feeling there might be a little swearing in it?

It says on the website age 5+ but recommend age 8....

Matilda is really good, DD was 5 when she first saw it and she loved it.

My DC have enjoyed the Tower Bridge Exhibition (where you walk over the glass floors), London Transport Museum, Museum of London Docklands, the memorial park a pp mentioned and climbing the London Monument. DD enjoyed the tour of parliament when she was 6, 4 year old DS was less impressed. They both liked the Cutty Sark, maritime museum and planetarium at Greenwich.

We took our son to London when he was 5. The highlight of his trip was the Duck Tour - it blew his mind that the vehicle could travel on land and water! The Natural History Museum also went down well as did Hyde Park.

Possibly way too late now, but you will get an idea of kid-friendly shows on kidsweek www.kidsweek.co.uk/ (they sell off the pricier tickets). I seem to remember that I started DD off with something short and tame at 4 (Tiger that went for Tea)...I think she then enjoyed Shrek at 5 (not on any more...maybe try Charlie & Choc if you have read it)?

Adventures in Wonderland (participatory theatre), might be fun (check with the teenagers)...I reckon DD was 5 or 6 and was puzzled..then loved it. It could have been a disaster if she was in the wrong mood.

Don't rule out pushing the boundaries. DD quite liked the Saatchi Gallery at your twin's age, possibly because we ate in The Mess (with soap bricks on the walls to the loos) or the top floor of Peter Jones (with its shiny shiny escalators).

Thames Clipper/Emirates Airline and front seat on DLR also feature quite highly on our under 10 travel alongside the top floor of number 15 bus to/from Tower of London.

Hi everyone, thanks for the suggestions, in the end we didn't do any shoes as most were too expensive for all of us, almost booked Alice, but was not too sure about dts. We did london eye, NHM, tge mummies at the British Museum, and lots of other stuff. They were exhausted at the end of each day 😊
