Good morning! We are a family of 5 looking ahead to next year and the May half term/Summer Holidays. We've never been to Cornwall and are hoping some of you might be able to suggests some nice "quieter" parts of Cornwall to visit. Any suggestions? X

We love bude but are city folks normally so maybe easily pleased! My mum grew up in helston and she's a bit sniffy about it but I can never understand why.

Eden is heaving in the rain so avoid.

Plymouth marine aquarium
Falmouth national maritime museum.
Lanhydrock house is lovely as are most the houses around. Bit of a walk down though.

We went to the Eden project using Tesco vouchers a few years ago. Not sure whether it is still listed. Alternatively, try going later as I think it was cheaper, and less crowded then. I'll be honest, I wasn't that impressed with it.

Fowey is lovely.

Falmouth is nice to visit and has a good nautical museum.

Cornish pasties and cream teas.

Padstow gets very very busy.

We stayed at Deerpark forest holidays lodge one year, and Eden Valley holiday park another,,which had nice lodges, and is near the Eden project.

Also, we hired bikes and cycled along the Camel way.

Wow. Thanks all. Sorry for radio silence have had poor internet signal.
I will certainly start having a look at all this tomorrow.
Bit torn about accommodation, tbh. Dont want to go OTT with cottages as have seen the lovely price tag that can accompany them. I'm open to camping- we've only ever been for a long weekends away as opposed to a week. Picture of Bude looks lush. I suppose its quite a big county so has plenty to offer. Xxx

I think much of Cornwall is busy through the school summer holidays, but nice spots to find too, if I remember correctly bude has a tidal swimming pool? We found an amazing little tea room in tintagel called Charlie's, it also had a yummy looking deli. We had the best cream tea there!! We went to Eden in the rain and whilst it was busy it's well designed so copes well with lots of people without feeling too congested. I've heard great things about lost gardens of heligan, I last went over ten years ago, but I hear now more for children etc.

Can I jump on please? Looking to go to a converted barn in the grounds of a manor 15 mins from Mevagissy in Sept (we're empty nesters).

Never having been to Cornwall before I was q happy to go ahead and book yesterday till a friend said that Mevagissy is not our kind of place, describing it as "a bit chavvy". She recommended St Ives.

My main reasons for going for Mevagissy area are:

  1. I've left it so late Cornwall is 95% booked even in Sept

  1. DH is garden mad so was thinking it's handy for Heligan and Eden.

Any thoughts? I'm going to have to book something today, and am currently going round in circles.

A converted barn in the grounds of a manor sounds idyllic (off to google it). There so much to do Cornwall I'm sure it doesn't matter where you are, and if you are 15 minutes away from Mevagissy, you are not actually in the town centre so it doesn't' really matter what the town is like.

We stayed on a campsite near the Eden project and used it as a base to explore the area include Fowey, The Eden project etc.

Have a look at //www.michaelpaulholidays.co.uk they have a selection of properties in Cornwall. Par Sands holiday park and Pentire Haven caravan parks are on there as well.
