hi, following on from my 'where to go this easter' thread, can anyone help me to plan my itinerary?

i'd like to find out about short-ish hikes/walks that are 'do-able' with a 5yo and 2.8 yo, pref accessible with an all terrain three wheeler buggy? (so no mountain passes, please!)

tia.

think there is a dovedale walk which would probably be ok..quite busy haven't been for a long time

UnquietDad · 26/03/2007 15:07

Dovedale is pretty good as it has wide paths and is fairly flat.

There is a nature trail along the Rivelin Valley on the edge of Sheffield - has a forest path which our friends managed with their buggy when they came to stay. (Ours have been out of pushchairs for a while and it's hard to remember!)

Walks round the reservoirs - Damflask, Agden, Ladybower etc - should be possible.

this book may help!

You can go up Mam Tor with a 3 wheeler buggy, start on the pass between Edale and Castleton. It's quite satisfying as you're high up on an ovious peak with great views and a defined summit. and you can fly kits up there.

fennel · 26/03/2007 15:10

kites not kits. and obviously not oviously

You can have one of our cats if you like, Fennel.

There is actually a Cat Throwing Contest in Ypres, you know. I believe they're dropped out of a high tower. Fake cats these days, of course.

Hi Noonar - following on from what I wrote on your previous thread, I can recommend a walk in the Manifold Valley - if you want to make it short just do from Wetton Mill to Thor's Cave. The path is tarmac so it is absolutely no problem for buggies (especially All Terrain models) although the 100 m or so off the track up to Thor's Cave is not tarmac. Recommended also for cyclists - so you could take buggy plus child's bike. There is a water splash at Wetton Mill that all children love cycling through. We walked/cycled in the Peak District (with only a basic Maclaren buggy) when we lived nearby when younger DS was aged between 1 and 6. Other areas we visited regularly included the Goyt Valley, Monsal Trail and Shutlingsloe which looks like a real mountain!

Pleased to be of service...

Another good short but scenic walk is up the hill to the castle from Castleton. You can take a buggy up the path. Then the children can play in the castle grounds.

From Buxton, up the hill to a folly tower called Solomon's temple. about a mile, maybe less, and sort of buggy-able.

Goyt valley, mentioned below, is quite good as there are bits of ruined old house on the hillside behind the reservoir, for children to explore.
