Guaranteed snow

So my nearly 4 year old has never had the pleasure of proper snow, building a snowman etc, winter just gone he was quite excited to build a snowman but living in London we don't get that much snow anymore! So where can I book a little cottage/cabin somewhere this winter where there's guaranteed to be snow? With 2 kids & a baby we'd rather not be going as far as Scotland if we can help it Smile

So suggestions please to make his snow man dream come true, where & when is the best time to go for something like this for a little weekend away?

Scandinavia would be your best bet I would have thought Smile

Northern USA or Canada in the depths of winter. Wrap up warm!

Ski holiday somewhere expensive (the better guarantee of snow, the more expensive the destination)

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 03/07/2017 20:32

Yes, Scandinavia or Canada. Even the ski resorts aren't reliably snowy these days.

Your OP suggests you're hoping for somewhere in the UK - no chance!

Yes I was hoping the fact that I put this in the UK section would give that away Grin there has to be somewhere!!

The snow dome in Milton Keynes does a session with sledges and snowballs I think. Otherwise you might get lucky in Aviemore, but no one can guarantee snow in the UK.

There is nowhere in the UK where you could guarantee snow on any one particular week.... even Scotland does not spend the winter covered in snow!

Can I suggest that you get out of London once in a while and discover the rest of the UK??

SorrelSoup · 03/07/2017 21:14

Yeah snowdome. Mine freaked out though when they realised snow was cold and wet, even though I'd constantly warned them!

BikeRunSki · 03/07/2017 21:17

Don't think there's anywhere in the UK you can guarantee snow, particularly on a predetermined date. We didn't get any this year, we usually have a few days between Dec-April. Have lived here 17 years, all previous winters have been snowy.

I've been to Iceland a couple of times and you can't even guarantee snow in Reykjavik every week in winter. There really isn't really anywhere in the U.K. that you can 100% guarantee it. The further north you go and the higher the ground the more you increase your chances though. Yad Moss? Ski-Allenheads? Both have ski slopes so seem a pretty good bet for snow.

Bit rude another, doesn't this thread suggest that's exactly hat I was trying to do? Bloody hell you can't even ask an innocent question on MN without someone being rude. Don't worry about it, Thanks for the suggestions about the snowdome etc
