Where to stay for a spa break for 40th.

DH wants to take me away for a mini break, hotel with spa. For my looming 40th birthday. I would like somewhere relaxing and some pampering. Pre DC we would go to the Maldives for a holiday and spa.

Obviously we can't replicate that, but any recommendations for a UK hotel/spa for one night away. GP's have said they will baby sit.

This will be our first break away without children in 6 years. DH gets to go to lovely hotels for work, but I haven't been away on a grown ups holiday since having DC.

I went to Ragdale Hall for my 40th. I had been through a really stressful time at work, and the break was just what I needed. I felt so relaxed by the time we went home. The food was sensational as well.

brimstonehotel.co.uk

Yes Brimstone on langdale estate is nice but Spa is quite small and crowded. Good pubs nearby though.

Luton Hoo is fabulous fun but local town is uninspiring.

Pennyhill hotel and Spa,Surrey.

mummymeister · 04/05/2017 09:22

personally I would book a hotel in bath and use the bath spa thermae baths. rooftop open air hot pool, lots of treatments and afternoon tea at the pump house. not something that you can easily do with kids.

WindyWednesday · 04/05/2017 18:42

Thank you all.

DH is thinking about Bath. But not the thermae baths. A hotel nearby. The thing is I'm am a therapist so it's always tricky to switch off with treatments. I really appreciate them, but if it's a naff massage I can get more stressed wanting to tell them where they are going wrong.

I promise I'm not a diva!

I came on to the thread to recommend Bath! My DSis and I stayed here:

The Bath Priory

It was gorgeous. And the centre of Bath was a fifteen minute stroll away through the park which has the Royal Crescent at the top of it.

Would go back there again in a heartbeat.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 04/05/2017 18:48

Oh, and we had treatments in the spa and loved them.

Schoolchauffeur · 04/05/2017 18:51

I can recommend Champneys Forest Mere in Liphook.

If Scotland isn't too far The Old Course hotel spa in St Andrews is fab- and the whole place has just been renovated too.

blueskyinmarch · 04/05/2017 18:56

The Old Course rooms have been renovated but they are just doing the spa/swimming pool now. It is uber expensive and not as good as some other places.

Crumbs1 · 04/05/2017 19:11

Bath way there's also Lucknam Park which is very nice.

Justalittlebitfurther · 04/05/2017 19:17

www.macdonaldhotels.co.uk/our-hotels/macdonald-bath-spa-hotel/ I stayed here for a friends birthday and it was fab.

Calcot Manor

Rainatnight · 04/05/2017 19:21

The Scarlet in Cornwall. Really fabulous. Best massage my DP has ever had and she's VERY fussy.

user1487194234 · 04/05/2017 19:37

I second the Scarlet
Fab

bluesky · 04/05/2017 19:41

Came on here to say The Scarlet, and seen its been mentioned twice! Its amazing, and so lovely to be near the sea, the food is fantastic.

(PS: And yes I'm really fussy too!)

And there's no kids there, adults only, so it's lovely and calm.

Pennyhill Park has a ginormous spa, so not quite as cosy. I didn't like Forest Mere.

Whatley Manor another thought.

LadyPenelopeCantDance · 04/05/2017 19:41

I second Pennyhill Park. And Alexander House.

Both very much 5 star with varied spa options. Not just bog standard pool and jacuzzi.

Somerville · 04/05/2017 19:45

Therapist? You need a top, top place then. Maybe a Cowshed Spa? So Babington, or Soho Farmhouse. Lush rooms and restaurants too.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 04/05/2017 19:48

As per a PP I've stayed at The Bath Priory.

It was lovely Grin

CuthbertDibble · 04/05/2017 20:11

How about Lime Wood in the New Forest? Beautiful surroundings, fantastic food and they have the Herb House Spa.

Stopyourhavering · 04/05/2017 20:14

Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire is amazing
www.gleneagles.com
Can thoroughly recommend!

WindyWednesday · 05/05/2017 10:28

Thank you, these recommendations are so helpful.

Another vote for The Scarlet.
Nothing beats it for individuality & well-being.

You're so lucky, wherever you go!

WindyWednesday · 07/05/2017 14:01

Oh my goodness, The scarlet looks wonderful. DH is from Cornwall, so I think he'd love the views.

Also like the idea of adults only. We will have to go in half term so that sounds appealing.

Another vote for Ragdale Hall from me. It's absolutely gorgeous!
