Questions about Legoland

We are thinking about having a short break and going to Legoland at the May half term. My questions are:

How much is there to see? Would a two day pass be better than one?

Will it be much busier on the Monday (Bank Hol) than later in the week?

That is, Legoland, Windsor btw.

Thanks.

What ages are your children?

We've never managed to do everything in one day, but there are always a few things we're happy to miss out so we don't worry too much about it. If you have the option of getting a two day pass it might be nice to be able to take your time over it, especially if you are going to have to spend time queuing. We usually go on an inset day (only an hours drive for us) so it's quiet when we go, I'd imagine a half term will be pretty busy.

Did you know you can save clubcard points and get the entrance tickets free via them? www.tesco.com/deals

How old are your DC? There's a lot to do and two days would be worthwhile, especially when it is busy. The ideal is to get there before park opens, cram in as many of the popular rides before the queues build up, then spend the rest of the day exploring, watching the shows etc.
If are doing a short break legoland website have some 2 for 1 deals with accommodation but i think it may end today.

It depends when you are thinking of going. It is always jam packed in the summer - last year dh queued for 2 hours to get on a ride that lasted about 30 seconds. Bank holidays will be really busy as will weekends but if it's school holidays you are looking at it being busy anyway.

I wouldn't buy a 2 day pass as I live local but I suppose if you are coming for a trip 2 days may be worth it. I have never made it round the park in 1 day but usually go about twice a year so it doesn't matter.

Oh, also it's really only good for younger children. My dd is 6.5 and she would rather go to a more grown up theme park like Chessington World of Adventurers (which is also near by).

She grew out of Legoland when she was about 5 ish - but she is a bit of a thrill seeker!

serenity · 31/01/2007 14:01

Definitely depends on the children. Last time we went DS1 would have been just over 8 and loved it, whereas we find Chessington a bit limiting as the rides are too adult for them - not really into 'scarey' rides, plus DS1 hates heights.

I don't know if you really need a 2 day pass, personally I'd choose to do one day there and a day elsewhere. I was also told that often bank holidays are quieter because everyone expects them to be busy and stays away! Legoland is 5 mins from me.

Thanks everyone. We live in Yorkshire so were thinking of it as a mini break during the May week. But we were only thinking of a few days but have the whole week off work/nursery/school. However you have to balance how busy it will be with the cost of the passes.

Foxtrot that is why I was posting today. We were thinking of a 2 day pass for the price of 1 day plus tickets forWindsor Castle as DS is a mad mights/castles etc fan, but thinking about to book two or three night accommodation as the price is starting to escalate. So a day and a half might be enough time. So we could get there about lunchtime on the first day, have the afternoon, go back the next day, then do Windsor Castle on the last day before going home. Or swap the first and last days round I suppose.

I have DS who will be 6 by then (but is a mad lego fan) and DD who will be 3.

Hmm kelly see your point re everyone thinking Bank Hols will be busy..... Now what to decide?

foxtrot · 31/01/2007 14:14

You do need to get there early and make a bee-line for the popular rides, so may be better to do Windsor Castle on first day.

Bozza · 31/01/2007 14:21

Right foxtrot. I will bear that in mind. Could have second day of pass on day we go home, so that will give us two early mornings there. How will I know which are the popular rides?

THe combined might of mumsnet will tell you of course!!

cece · 31/01/2007 14:25

Popular....

long queues usually for

driving school and boat driving school thing, not sure about the roller coasters as my two are too scared to go on them

no doubt soemone else will know more

Kelly1978 · 31/01/2007 14:27

and the fire engine things, but def do the driving school first, it is the worst for queuing. The boat one isn't quite so bad because at least there is lego to play with while waiting.

Kelly1978 · 31/01/2007 14:28

may might even be warm enough for the water bit too, so pack towels and stuff.

foxtrot · 31/01/2007 14:36

Agree driving school and boating school. Also the pirate falls, the big dragon coaster, the fire station, and the slide with the rubber boats are busy. Also inexplicacbly, because they are pants, the diggers and the dino safari.
