Can't afford a lot, but was hoping for somewhere we could take some good walks, and enjoy some good views.

Depends what you mean by not a lot - but our special treat is the Mansion House in Poole. Not that we can afford it very often!

I've just been to the Acorn Inn at Evershot, about 20 mins from Dorchetser (work not play, unfortunately!). It is gorgeous and the 4-poster rooms look lovely (didn't get one of those, though ). The countryside is perfect for walking, Dorchester is a gorgeous town with good shopping, and if you fancy a drive down to Swanage you can get a 4 course meal on a steam train on a Saturday night!

Plumber Manor used to be very nice - good food, lovely setting. Think it's near Sturminster ?Marshall. good luck.

Ooooooooh! Should be revising but have just spent the last 20 minutes drooling! That Burgh Island looks so nice, should I remortgage the house? Other suggestions look interesting too, will have to review with dp..

Cod how strange I was going to say Burgh Island. It's like being in an episode of Poirot.

bundle · 10/06/2004 15:30

burgh island lovely, specially the tractor you take to get over there..

CountessDracula · 10/06/2004 15:32

yes it's very odd and big

Don't do what I did. Had borrowed MIL's car which had a beepy locking thing that you point and press at the car. Parked, walked down to the beach and half way to the island. Then decided to see if the beepy thing worked that far away. It did. Pressed several times. Realised we no longer had any idea if car was open or locked. Climbed a long way back up

idiots.

I think you should go to Monkey World. It is not far from Wareham. They rescue apes from all over the world and it is a great day out.

the Priory in Wareham, \the Haven in Sandbanks both v special

Lyme Regis? My parents have a house there (hence not much good for hotel recommendations), it's a lovely place. Although I have a feeling that the promenade might be all dug up at the mo, not sure if the work is finished yet.

Jimjamskeepingoffvaxthreads · 11/06/2006 11:30

Burgh Island is nowhere near Dorset though (its near me).

Eowyn · 11/06/2006 11:35

Lyme Regis is a bit of a building site at the mo, we just stayed in a cottage in Burton Bradstock which is beautiful & easy to get to anywhere along that bit of coast.

twocatsonthebed · 11/06/2006 11:42

how about \link{http://www.museuminn.co.uk/index.shtml\the museum inn} in Farnham - a rather luxury pub that does fantastic food, and the countryside's pretty good too. We had a lovely weekend there...
