Just that really . Looking to do a short overnight break to a quiet English seaside village or town . No Brighton or Bournemouth as we want to avoid large towns and cities

Deal is a nice little seaside town in Kent.

gracienine · 25/07/2016 21:17

Or Rye, which is right next to camber sands beach

MindfulBear · 25/07/2016 21:18

Burnham ovary staithe (in fact any of the burnhams) on the north Norfolk coast is lovely.

timegate · 25/07/2016 21:19

Rye, next to camber sands. Only 1.5 hours from London.

Southwold in Suffolk. Do agree the North Norfolk coast is wonderful.

Burton Bradstock

Dorset and Lyme Regis are lovely, but touristy. So on the plus side, lots to see and do, but not necessarily peaceful.

Southwold in Suffolk is very traditional and quaint - there is a pier with traditional rides, donkey rides on the beach, long lines of beach huts. It will be busy though.

Isle of Wight?

All of the below are spot along the Essex coastline:
Frinton on Sea - gorgeous clean beaches and no tourist crap whatsoever on the beach front.
DO NOT go to Jaywick, it is a very deprived and run down area with a lot of problems.
Maybe consider Clacton (I haven't been for years though, so can't really comment)
Walton on the Naze has beaches, but more touristy with a pier full of loud arcade attractions.
Mersea Island has some pretty beaches, but again no touristy stuff all. Very close to historic town Colchester with lots of things to do on another day.

I would say Lyme Regis but it is busy at this time of year (assume trip is imminent?).

Charmouth- village not that picturesque but the beach is bloody amazing.

holkham and blakeney are also fabulous in the north Norfolk coast.

I also like cambersands on the south coast but never stayed there!

And friends go to Aldburgh in Suffolk every year. Sounds lovely.

Where in London are you coming from? That can make quite a difference to your 3 hours.
