Can you recommend a Dog Friendly UK Holiday ?

Last year we went to Torquay and found a lovely Hotel . We stayed in a self catering apartment but paid to have Dinner Bed and Breakfast. We tried leaving our Dog in the room whilst we went for our meals or by the pool but he was TERRIBLE and I felt awful that he was waking other people up . The Manager was really good and allowed us to sit in the bar area to have our meals and our dog sat under the table good as gold. Then he sat under my sun bed by the pool!! Its so hard to find places that will let you do this.
Does anyone have any recommendations? Doesnt have to be child friendly as this will be my last holiday without children!!
Want to go Middle of May.
Thanks!

Try country cottages

My mum uses them all the time, they have two big dogs. The houses don't all allow dogs but a fair number of them do.

Expensive, but oh so fabulous ... we went for a long weekend but I came home feeling as though I'd been away a fortnight.

Thanks for the Info - Country cottages are nice, but I think they're all self catering?
and I looked at the Luxury Hotels - Very nice but abit too much - nearly £1800pw for 2 of us!! (i could go to the Caribbean for that!) . Any other suggestions?

The AA do a cheapie guide book that lists places that accept dogs - ours is a 'mare thou;' - he barks at anyone going past the bedroom door!

justbeme · 27/01/2007 17:20

thanks - Got one out of the AA guide last yr - although it was a yr out of date - and when we go there -after booking, he told us that he didnt really do B & B anymore and that the Bar advertised was no more 'cos he was taking in recovering alcoholics /drug users now - We stayed one night but it was awful and nothing like what it looked like on the internet either!
Thats why I thought i'd get recommendations as Im not sure sure whether to trust the guide books /web pages!!
Any one else? Dont really want self catering and they need to be ok about letting dogs into where you eat!

dh and I went to Ullswater in the Lake District a couple of years ago.
We stayed in a chalet, and found the whole area very dog friendly

justbeme · 28/01/2007 15:26

Thanks for that - been looking at Ullswater - looks nice. I emailed one lady - who said "Dogs are not allowed to be left alone in the bedroom nor are they allowed to be in the dining area" - So tell me - what am i supposed to do with my dog when im eating my breakfast? Or should i go and eat brekkie on my own and then send my partner down onces ive finished????!!

Only rule where we were was that dogs were not to be left unattended in the chalet.
This suited us as the pub down the road allowed dogs in to the bar, as do a lot of pubs in the area
Try here for more info.
We stayed at Knotts Hill Caravan Site, rural but lovely

Thanks for that - it looks lovely !!
Had a reply back from the lady who runs a b & b - im supposed to put my dog in the car when im eating!!

Just be careful where you go if you are planning a "seaside" type holiday. Lots of bigger beaches ban dogs between Easter & Sep.
