London - where can we stay outside centre?

I'm taking the dcs to London for a few days. I'd like to take the car as we're going to do Harry Potter studios on last day then drive home (I haven't even looked where it is )

Anyway where can we stay where we can get access to the city directly for 2 days and then to HP studios

I've looked into it a bit more for some reason a day return including travel on tube & buses from Watford is £47 for all of us but only £20 from Hemel Hempstead so that looks like a better option

Epping? Right at the end of the Central line and good access to motorways.

Are you sure that is right for train and travelcards from Hemel?
It isn't on the Oyster network...
