Salcombe with 1 year old ds??

We fancy a week in Salcombe at the end of June with ds who will be 14 months. Is there enough to do if it rains? Lots of the cottages I've found are in the town centre and walking distance from ferry to sandy beach - sound any good?

Yeah Salcombe is great but very expensive to holiday in. There are things to do for people in the rain but these generally involve driving. I can't really think of much in the town to do apart from pubs and a bit of shopping and a small maritime museum, although there is plenty to do in neighbouring towns.
The ferry to the beach is fantastic....runs nearly all day and the beaches are bliss, just watch out for the dinghy weeks at the time you are going as many of them use the beach as a dinghy park so take over part of the beach.
Its a very picturesque place, dont forget a lifejacket if you are taking a child on a boat and if possible try to hire a boat for yourself for the day to explore the creeks yourself.
Hops you have a great holiday

Ooh hiring a boat and exploring creeks sounds lovely. It will be our only summer hols so I think price wise it should be ok. Have found nice cottages for about £500 a week. Do you reckon you can hire baby life jackets there??

you many be able to, though dont bet on it, you're better off buying one cheaply on ebay or something as the ferry may not take you without life jackets although the journey between salcombe and the beach is not far at all.
Another point the town is quite steep depending on where you are staying so a pushchair is a must unless you are superstrength slingers!
I haven't been for about two years but friends say it is still lovely. There are some great places for eating out, the yacht club at the top of the town provides some fantastic views of the sea and sand and the boats and dinghys sailing in summer make for great viewing.

Thanks pretendmum. Am getting excited. Will have a look on ebay now.

We go to Salcombe loads there is alot to do but yes deffo need a car if the weather is bad, short drives away are

Bigbury with burg island, beautiful beach.
Dartmouth with ferry over to Steam railway great in bad weather takes you to Paignton.
Slapton nature reserve.
Torbay and all it has to offer.

There are lovely beaches in salcombe but only accessed by ferry, also North sands and south sands, one of which has a big car park with green next to it great for playing cricket, football etc. Also has cafe, toilets etc.

We are staying in salcombe early June and did last year and have four small kids and always have a great time.
