Think we are going to stay in the uk for a holiday this year because abroad is just to expensive.

We will be taking 3 kids ss who is 9 ds who is 4 & dd who is 1. We would like to stay in a caravan/mobile home thingy & be right on a gorgeous sandy beach, not bothered about the site entertainment because we like to go out different places in evenings...

prefer to go south but can be swayed if the place is gorgeous..

we stayed here...

clean, basic pine lodges.. not luxurious but everything you needed!.. not right in the beach but within reach of zillions of girgeous beaches/landmarks... had an idyllic time last summer... looking forward to going back!

Have a look at the forestry commission -- they do lovely lodge holidays

fortyplus · 04/01/2007 01:43

We went to France last year cheaper than the UK - Vendee Loisirs Vacances
Stayed in caravan backinking onto sand dunes - loads to do nearby for kids.
In the UK Sandhills near Christchurch backs on to beach but not sandy.
Woolacombe has fab beach but caravans are a good distance away - you can get a
free bus, though.
Swanage is good - Studland Bay is fab.
Have also stayed in cheap apartments backing onto the dunes near Crantock, Cornwall.

Dornoch, Sutherland. East coast of Scotland. Beautiful sandy beaches, blue seas and loads to see and do round there. Castles, sailing, distilleries for Mum and Dad.

fortyplus · 04/01/2007 10:56

Beautiful wide sandy beaches in Northumberland, too - and no one on them cos it's always freezing!

Blu · 04/01/2007 10:59

Pinewoods caravans and lodges, Wells-Next-The-Sea, North Norfolk, a very beautiful beach, with miles of coastal and pinewoods walking close by.

fortyplus · 04/01/2007 11:05

The only thing with Norfolk is that there are very strong currents so be very wary if your kids are of an age that they'll be in the water on their own. Fine for paddling with Mum & Dad, though.

ScoobyDooooo · 04/01/2007 15:26

Ok have been looking at a few places am quite liking the Vendee Loisirs Vacances in france which was mentioned is this on the beach though?

Also am very very tempted by This place but has anyone been & is it nice? the beach looks lovely & says croyde's breathtaking beach is just a frisbee throw away from the park?

St Ives Bay Caravan Park is right onto a glorious sandy beach.

ScoobyDooooo · 04/01/2007 15:42

Bozza thanks for the link we went there a couple of years ago it is gorgeous & we loved it but we don't want to travel that far out this yr, it takes us 7+ hours to get there by car but i have to agree it is lovely

We went there a couple of years back when DD was a newborn and yes it was a long drive.

fortyplus · 04/01/2007 16:18

Scooby - Vendee Loisirs Vacances have more than one site - the one we stayed at was right on the coast - pine trees, dunes and long sandy beach. Can't remember the name of it at the moment, though

fortyplus · 04/01/2007 23:45

Right - found it. The site was called Le Dornier and the lodge/caravan cost us £610 for a week in August.

There are loads of sites nearby but most looked very crowded. This one had loads of French people in tents with just 10 VLF caravans facing inwards arranged in a circle right at the far end. Great for young children - there are pools/crazy golf and that sort of thing quite close by if you're into that sort of thing.

PeachesMcLean · 04/01/2007 23:52

Tenby, West Wales. Gorgeous beaches, some of the best I've seen (especially nearby Barafundle). Plenty to do. Quite a few caravan/mobile home sites around. Fab.

fortyplus · 04/01/2007 23:56

Problem with this country is that all the best beaches are in cold, wet places!

annieapple7 · 08/01/2007 13:00

I have been to Ruda, Scooby. Great beach that is right opposite the Parkdean site. Caravans basic but clean (tiny beds!) Nice indoor pool for children. Very surfy. Lots to do within driving distance (like dinosaur theme park and Ewephoria I think).
Why not buy the Sun newspaper this week, you can collect tokens and have a cheap holiday there (or in lots of other caravan/chalet style parks).

aDad · 08/01/2007 13:06

I've been to Ruda too scoobydoo.

It really is right on the beach. Would recommend. I only stayed there as an independent camper so didn't rent a caravan or chalet or anything.

Croyde is small but lovely. There aren't endless places to go out and eat but I dont think you will mind. The pubs are great.

puffling · 08/01/2007 13:12

Go to South Devon. Here's a link:
www.parkdeanholidays.co.uk/challaborough-bay-holiday-park.htm
We used to go here when I was 5, over 30 years ago and I still remember. There are beautiful sandy beaches and there's Burgh island which you can walk to at low tide, or get the sea tractor when the tide's in.

Aero · 08/01/2007 13:17

We stayed here and loved it. Safe and trampolines everywhere for your kids entertainment. Not on a beach, but heaps to do in the area.

ScoobyDooooo · 08/01/2007 21:06

Thanks everyone have got our heart set on ruda i think now but also looking at pufflings one as it was between these 2 in the first place...oh decisions? I am collecting the sun tokens is well but we want to stay in the hartland caravan which is the top 2 bedroom one with a veranda so i think we are going to use the tokens for another break somehwhere else.
