Ive been once before about 13 years ago, stayed at The Scotsman. Where would you recommend in the city to stay - nice hotel with bar and maybe spa and where would you recommend to eat please.

Also what should we do in the day is the castle worth a visit?

Tigerlily www.tigerlilyedinburgh.co.uk/ is very nice - and in a great location on George Street...

Eat? Harvey Nicks Forth Floor restaurant. Great menu and views.

Castle is OK - I'd just wander. Along the Royal Mile, in Haymarket, etc. Take a bus tour/do Dynamic Earth/ghost tour/Camera Obscura/whisky museum/The Real mark King's Close - www.realmarykingsclose.com/ -that's fab, really fascinating.

I had to go through a hell of a process to login in changing passwords etc just so i could say to you.. eat at The Witchery! Get a table in the actual restaurant not in the orcahard bit or whatever it's called. It's really nice, dark and romantic. Amazing food!
Castle is good too. Go up the Scot's monument if you aren't afraid of heights.
The Sheraton Grand is a really nice hotel to stay at with an amazing spa and there's a outdoor pool ont he top of the building - it is awesome! Also, you can park there and is central.

We want tot he Witchery last time and it was rubbish!!! I think Ive posted about this before...IT was 13 years ago and I still remember to the day!! The starter was inediable leek and cheese tartlet the pastry you couldnt cut they actually took it off the menu, they ran out of steak tartar and the table next to us was literally 3inches away, we felt like we had to whisper all night so that people couldnt hear our conversations. The best thing was the wine list it was like a bible!! I just couldnt go back it may be better now but spoilt my 2nd wedding anniversary there

We went to Edinburgh recently and stayed in the Radisson on the Royal Mile. Not particularly romantic but modern, lively and perfect location to just go out for a wander.
We ate at Divino Enteca, just off George IV bridge, a really intimate Italian restaurant down in the wine cellar with a wine-tasting 'machine' so you can sample lots of different ones.
Highly recommended.

I'd recommend Castle Terrace for food, their tasting menu is amazing and they also do a more reasonably priced lunch which is also great. We've sampled both and not been disappointed.

And Mary's Milk Bar on Grassmarket for an ice cream or one of their hot chocolate ice cream floats!
