I'm looking for a cottage/house/flat/static caravan/somewhere to stay with DH, a 2.5yr old and DDog for a week in September. I started with Norfolk but haven't found anywhere that struck me as yet and am now expanding to anywhere within a 4 hour drive of West Yorkshire. Ideally I'd like somewhere homely and comfy, to be near(ish) the coast for dog walks and have good fish and chips and a nice family friendly pub. Has anyone been anywhere that would fit the bill that they'd recommend?

Beadnell cottage overlooks the sea and short walk to fab beach. Fish & chips literally just down the lane. There is a pub but we didn't go in. Whole area is family & dog friendly though. Lovely micro brewery pub The Ship Inn at Low Newton (think dogs were allowed in but we sat outside).

That does look fantastic but is unfortunately already booked! Back to the drawing board. I would usually consider holiday searching to be one of my greater skills so failing miserably at this is pissing me right off!

What about Filey just outside Scarborough. We stayed at a farmhouse with a few cottages who accepted dogs. If I can remember the name I'll post it.

Where have you looked in Norfolk? We always end up in Cromer (very adventurous, us!) as it's family friendly, good fish and chips, lovely beach etc.

Places like here are dog friendly and right on the beach.

Found it. Must go again. It was lovely. Handy for Filey, Scarborough, etc

If you live in w yorks you will probably know Scarborough like the back of your hand.

Wells-next-the-sea. It is the most dog friendly place I have ever been to. Most of the shops have bowls of water outside for thirsty dogs, many pubs welcome dogs and I have never seen so many dogs (on leads) while on holiday before. The enormous beach is split into dog friendly and dog free areas.

How about Northumberland?

WE've stayed with Coquet Cottages lots of times, and they are excellent. You can walk to the beach from Warkworth and there are several pubs plus a fab patisserie. Most of their properties are very set up for dogs too.

Bun Wells was number one choice but I can't find somewhere to stay as yet! Dowser DH worked in Scarb for a year and hated it so I don't think he could be persuaded. I'll have a look at all the others tomorrow. Thanks so much for your ideas everyone!

Wells is perfect for what you want. Dogs are literally everywhere and welcomed in pubs, restaurants, beach, seal trips! Lots of good walks plus a nice playground, amusements, beach cafe, fish and chips shops.

Thanks Code. Wells seems to fit the bill and isn't too lengthy a drive so I'll concentrate the search on there. Haven't found anything that isn't either already booked or hideously expensive and sleeps 12 yet but I shall persevere!

Thank everyone for your help, we've managed to book somewhere.

I failed to find anywhere that fit the bill and was available in Wells and I spoke to a friend that goes there every year and she said nice dog friendly places book up months in advance. Instead I've booked a cottage on a farm in the Cotswolds. Lots of animals to keep the toddler amused and a 30 min trek across fields to a dog friendly pub with supposedly excellent food that should keep the rest of us happy. We might even manage a beach too as it's less than an hour from the coast. Fingers crossed it's as good as it looks and the weather is kind!

Thanks again for all your suggestions!
