Apart from obvious things like phone chargers, what other essentials must I take? Am bound to forget something although will probably be able to buy replacements, we're going to the Isle of Wight, not the back of beyond.

I'm thinking kids favourite toys and books, colouring things, stuff that you have lying around at home that would probably forget to pack for a holiday but can't do without. gin

Dds aged 6 and 8. SC holiday cottage. Am not planning to do much cooking. Grin

I'll take stuff that's likely to go off like milk etc, as I will need a cup of tea when I get there.

The 3G and 4G signal doesn't look too bad. Will have to ask if they have free wifi.

I think we're about a mile up the road from that farm shop at Arreton. It's on my app and it does look lovely. Is that Farmer Jacks?

If you were planning on cooking then I'd suggest your own veg peeler, kitchen scissors and tongs.

Don't forget hoodies/windcheaters etc for beach Grin A few clothes pegs can be handy. Take dishwasher tablets from your own stock rather than having to buy 40 there and use 6 then have to lug 34 home....

Umbrella, winter jumper, wellies.

Toilet rolls - everywhere I have stayed they never leave more than a few sheets and after a long drive with 3 kids and a granny in the car, there is always a call for more.
Matches
Torch - in case of power cut but also great for a trek in the dark looking for rabbits, hedgehogs etc
Food bags for picnics
Scented nappy sacks to hold any particularly nasty clothes until they can be washed

Some large plastic tumblers - holiday cottages only ever have piddly little glasses and sometime you want a pint of water

Isle of Wight is fab for kids - there's something for everyone there.

For self catering holidays, I always took cereals, tomato sauce, washing up liquid, kitchen wipes, tea towels, and basics such as pasta, tea, coffee, etc.

Yep! Farmer Jacks, that's the one. Amazing cheese. You've got to get yourself some IOW Soft and some Gallybagger to wash down with a pint (or two) of Fuggle-dee-dum.

Also, make sure you go to the Garlic Farm! I love it there. Cafe/shop is amazing. Does get busy during hols, etc. though.

Thanks Skeps. We like the sound of Fuggle-dee-dum and dh says he has heard that the best garlic comes from the IOW. Funnily enough our local deli gets all their garlic from there.

A month to go. Hurrah!
