Im taking my grandso to Edinburgh to see the pandas as a birthday treat next month.

On the Sunday afternoon we want to see the yacht britannia....can't get enough of that boat.

Now then any ideas of what to do with a 12 year old Friday night and Sunday morning please

Many thanks

Camera Obscura is great for that age, my DS still talks about it years later Smile

Dynamic Earth if its raining on Sunday morning?

Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Dungeons tour

Mary King's close

National Museum of Scotland

I second camera obscura, brilliant fun.

HelenF350 · 06/05/2015 20:15

The ghost tours are good fun for an evening.

Cafe Andaluz in George Street is nice for tapas and a cheery atmosphere.

The castle is really boring. The Modern Art Gallery has delicious cakes and a fun grass garden with big hills, it was all a surprise hit with my dcs.

I went recently, the pandas were inside and we didn't get to see them. Poorly/bad weather/I can't remember what the notice said. Ho hum.

Hope it is better for you!

How long would we need in camera obscura or dynamic earth to give it a good going over. I reckon we would need to be at the royal yacht by 2-30 ( so must leave at 2) to give us a couple of hours there before heading back!

We aren't famous for being early risers ;-)

I was hoping to see a show on Friday night at the playhouse but I don't think Roy chubby brown would be suitable for a child.

Dynamic Earth - An hour and a half I would say. There is a film in th show dome at the end which is about 1/2 an hour IIRC. The rest you can take at your own pace. You could spend a lot longer in there.

Thanks Erin. Some great suggestions.

I hope we get to see some Pandas. Is the Zoo a whole day event?

The zoo will take up plenty of the day,big you stay and have lunch etc. The penguin show is brilliant.

It is on a hillside though so can be tiring! Also, if it's a cold day, the wind is brutal so take layers.

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 07/05/2015 10:14

big?! if was what a meant to say there... Confused

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 07/05/2015 10:15

I, not a. Baby brain (and typing fingers, apparently) Hmm

chemenger · 07/05/2015 10:18

You know that you have to book a time to see the pandas?

dancemom · 07/05/2015 10:29

Zoo can take up a whole day. Book in advance for panda slots or go first thing for on the day allocation. Use the mini bus to take you to the top and work your way down - great dinosaur exhibition at the top too!

HelenF350 · 07/05/2015 12:58

We spent 2/2.5 hours in camera obscura.

rallytog1 · 07/05/2015 20:55

The Museum of Scotland is great for that age group.

Dowser · 25/05/2015 23:05

Yes have booked our pandas lot ;-)

The castle is not boring.

Tandemitis · 25/05/2015 23:15

City of the Dead ghost tour which I think goes from the Royal Mile. But not if he's easily scared!

PuellaEstCornelia · 27/05/2015 07:54

The Parliament Building is fabulous - not sure a 12 year old woulcd enjoy it, though!
