Money is a bit tight this year so our usual summer holiday has been delayed to next year so I have longer to pay it off !

On impulse I booked a 4 night stay with the Sun promotion codes. By the time I got through to the website all that was left was Mon - Thursday at park resorts camber sands.

Ive read the reviews Sad

and now ive upgraded to a Gold caravan !! I have a horrible feeling I may have made a terrible mistake.
DH looked at it and said " if its horrible i'm going home again !!"

Anyone been......ahem....

I've not been to this resort, but we have been to a few. My DC (7 and 3) love this type of holiday. Try and take the reviews with a pinch of salt.

Otterwa · 28/04/2015 22:19

Don't know anything about the Park resort but Camber Sands is nice. Long flat stretch sand and shallow sea, sand dunes to play in.

cece · 28/04/2015 22:22

I have stayed in a chalet there. My DH said exactly the same.

It was OK and we managed to last the weekend. The beach is very nice and just across the road. The pool was good. The bar was loud and had a very organised queuing system. We weren't keen on the bar though and strangely they had TVs blaring out in the restaurant Hmm We went and got fish and chips at a local shop and sat on the beach to eat them. Rye is pretty and worth a visit.

MegBusset · 28/04/2015 22:22

Yes, we've done a Sun holiday to Park Resorts Camber Sands

It was good! In fact we enjoyed ourselves so much that we went back twice more.

The entertainment is very cheesy and some of the clientele a bit chavvy but as long as you accept it for what it is and leave your inner snob at home, it's absolutely fine. kids enjoyed the playground and crazy golf, kids' disco etc. The pools are good, and the beach is spectacular. Plenty of places to visit nearby.

Pinksuitcase · 28/04/2015 22:23

It will be fine, I live near to Camber and the beach is lovely, Rye is also good for a stroll around, also Tenterden. Depending on kids ages, Romney, hythe and Dymchurch railway is great, Hastings is OK too, lots to do on seafront and jerwood gallery. They have a nice pool on site too, and the traditional holiday park entertainment, disco, kids club etc. If the weather is good tho just go over the road to the beach!

TheoriginalLEM · 28/04/2015 22:24

our sun holiday was great.

camber sands isn't far from me. its great. The romney hythe and Dymchurch railway stops there (miniature railway ). You can go to dungeoness from there. Amazing place. even the nuclear power station. they used to do tours. Amazing solitary beach. Dinner at the pilot for the best fish and chips.

half hour in the car is rye and hastings.

You'll have a great time.

Seriouslyffs · 28/04/2015 22:24

The beach is lovely...

RueDeWakening · 28/04/2015 22:25

We stayed there in Oct half term a couple of years ago. It was fine - we don't use their facilities much, eat in the van and walk/play on the beach mostly. Although I spent the whole time on OYBBK's storm warning thread and we came home a day early due to strong winds across the SE.

Plan a day in Rye, that's lovely.

likalixer · 28/04/2015 22:26

You'll have a great time! We've done a few in our time and I think they're good for little breaks...
you know - where you don't want a full-blown holiday, but still feel like getting away for a few days. Somewhere the children can let off steam and the adults can unwind.
Yes, they're a bit honkey tonk/butlinsy/clubhouse in the eveningy types of places (you know what I mean), but if you just accept it for what it is:
a nice little cheapie break for a few days, and go with the flow -
you will have a good time!

Yeah the Pontins looks dire.

Princesspond · 28/04/2015 23:37

If you are blessed with good weather it will be fine, camber sands is beautiful on a sunny day (can be prone to wind though) it's our nearest sandy beach and I love heading there in summer. Rye is lovely for a wander, nice cafés / places to eat. NT lamb house is there. Loads of places to visit in driving distance. Nice country pubs. We often have one of the newspaper cheap breaks and they are fab value for money, it's what you make of them. A cheap way to see the area we just did one to Cornwall and paid half or even a third less than we could have hired the most basic cottage for.

Princesspond · 28/04/2015 23:39

Er that's meant to say two-thirds less

nonsense0name · 29/04/2015 09:53

OP please please can you report back on your holiday once you have been...

I've recently posted a thread about Centreparcs on a budget and have also thought about the Sun hols - I haven't yet got my act together to collect the tokens but colleagues at work go and seem to have a fab time....I am not convinced but also think I should chill out, not be such a snob and have some fun :) DH would also take some convincing but kids are desperate for a holiday and don't care where...

An honest review would be v helpful..

cestlavielife · 29/04/2015 17:36

it' s fine - entertainment is chavvy and cheesey. onsite shop v basic think cheese strings, crisps and coke. upgrade to best caravan you can. nip up to rye park in singposted car park tehre is a playground near by too. ) and to the farm shop on the way to rye on the corner by the road junction)
www.saltsfarmshop.co.uk/ for nice produce to cook in caravan.

not far away is www.rarebreeds.org.uk/

and bedgebury pinetum bedgeburypinetum.org.uk/

camber beach is great and just across the road.

cestlavielife · 29/04/2015 17:37

take the kids bikes you can also hire go carts/multiple seat bikes

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/04/2015 17:46

You can't always trust reviews, I had a fab holiday over Xmas but I didn't leave a review.

A colleague did a sun holiday in Cornwall, surfed all day and went for a meal off site at night. They loved it.

ChippyMinton · 29/04/2015 17:50

Use it as a base. The surrounding area is lovely. Rye is where Mapp and Lucia is set and filmed.

Just avoid the bar/entertainment if it's not your kind of thing.

mayaknew · 29/04/2015 17:52

We've booked a sun holiday this year too OP . We are going to pontins in southport that was all we could get for our dates .

Where is camber sands ? If the park is rubbish you could venture out and see what's going on nearby ? Hope you have a nice time Smile

Lindy2 · 29/04/2015 17:56

So long as you don't expect 5 star luxury and go with the intention of having a good time you will enjoy it. We've been there and have had a good time. It was nice and clean and friendly. The kids absolutely loved it. Rye is lovely. I think Port Lympne zoo is in that area too. That was a nice day out. Have fun!

holidays are what you make of them usually. A chance to be somewhere different, see a few new things, a change of scenery.
If the resort is not great, just use it as a base. Make sure you find other things to do in the area, or spend time paddling at the beach

Branleuse · 30/04/2015 16:57

ive been on a few sun holidays, and while they werent my best holidays ever, they were fine, and my eldest still occasionally talks about them fondly

bendybrickpumpkinpatch · 08/05/2015 13:03

Thnnks everyone Ive only just seen your replies.

I will take your comments on board and leave any snobby attitudes at home. The kids are actually beside themselves with excitement at staying in a caravan and yes the beach and surrounding area does look lovely so I just hope the weather is nice !

nonsence0name yes I will absolutely report back Grin
