Me and 14yo dd.

We thought we might go to Harrogate for a day and Betty's. My brother pulled a face when I told him and reckoned Harrogate wasn't worth visiting....but he's a man so maybe wouldn't get the idea of bumbling about looking in shops and having nice coffee! Grin

We wanted to go and do the Ingleton waterfalls walk as well.

And I know it's a bit of a drive but Lightwater Valley is somewhere we've always meant to go.

Anywhere else? Hebden bridge? Skipton castle? Fountains Abbey?

Fountains Abbey is quite spectacular. You can download a free audio guide from the english heritage website. What about a trip to james for Wensleydale cheese (and then a drive to see the ribblesdale viaduct?)

VivaLeBeaver · 14/04/2015 13:39

Is that Hawes? Grin

We know Wensleydale quite well having holidayed there before.

Will check out the audi guide, thanks.

It's also a bit of a drive but Forbidden Corner near Leyburn is fantastic.

Skipton is lovely and Skipton Castle is enjoyable to look round.

Haworth? There's the Brontë Parsonage Museum and, if you fancy it, the walk out to Top Withens is lovely.

Keighly and worth valley railway, skipton is nice, ilkley lido if it's warm, saltaire, Yorkshire sculpture park, tropical world Leeds, hebden bridge hardcastle craggs, mother shibdens cave in Harrogate, rippon

VolumniaDedlock · 14/04/2015 13:50

Skipton castle's really nice. You can take a short boat trip on the canal as well.

and this ice cream parlour is good fun

VolumniaDedlock · 14/04/2015 13:52

i suppose you could also do Manchester as a day trip if you get fed up with all of that lovely outdoorsy stuff - we live in Manchester and visit Skipton/Bolton Abbey pretty often.

avocadotoast · 14/04/2015 13:53

Hebden Bridge is nice but only if the weather's good; there's a lot of little shops and things but it's really just a lot of milling around and looking at stuff. Which is fine, it's just not that fun in the rain!

Knaresborough is nice for a day out too.

Oh and there's a place called The Forbidden Corner, you need to book in advance but it's worth it. I haven't been for years but we used to go a lot when I was younger, me and my sister always loved it. I know she went recently with her boyfriend and his kids and said it's still as good Smile

passthewineplz · 14/04/2015 13:53

Sorry for the typos.. Keighley and worth valley, ripon, and stockeld park whetherby.

avocadotoast · 14/04/2015 13:53

(Totally missed that Forbidden Corner had already been mentioned, doh. Definitely look it up though!)

elizaco · 15/04/2015 11:15

Agree, The Forbidden Corner is great. And I also agree Billy Bob's Icecream Parlour is brill - worth booking though - it tends to get very busy. If you're visiting Ingleton, maybe visit White Scar Caves, as well as doing the waterfall walk. Bolton Castle, near Redmire, Wensleydale is lovely too.

Aberchips · 15/04/2015 11:19

Harrogate is lovely - pottering in the shops, Betty's & the Turkish Baths are nice there too - probably not up a typical man's street though!!
Knaresborough is nice & also Ilkley nearby (Betty's there too) walks up on the moors. Get the train from Ilkley or Skipton to Leeds if you fancy a bit of city action as well.

Fountains Abbey, Forbidden Corner, Malham Cove, Grassington, Brimham rocks. There are a tonne of icecream parlours which are all worth visiting :), if you can be bothered to travel, York is lovely, they have a Betty's and plenty more shops, would suggest you use park and ride on the outskirts as it's much cheaper and easier to find. Harrogate does have a climbing wall, if your dd is into that.

VivaLeBeaver · 15/04/2015 16:59

Thanks for all the ideas. Will definitly go to Forbidden Corner. Dd went years ago but ive never been and it sounds great.

Will have a potter round harrogate as well and find some ice cream parlours.

Definitely spend a day at Malham Cove, there is so much to see, it's stunning. Take in Gordale Scar and the limestone pavements. Lovely walk without any dull bits.

If you like walking, Ingleborough form Clapham is a lovely walk.
