Centre Parcs & chicken pox

Due to go on Monday, DC don't have it & are completely fine in themselves but practically every child in nursery has had it at the moment so we will get it at some point soon, so if it's while we're there I'm just wondering what our options are in terms of cancellation and losing our money. We'd need to come home if they fall ill while we're there or this weekend, spoke to CP & they said of course you can't go anywhere bringing you in close contact with other people (pools, activity village, cafés etc), which renders the holiday pretty redundant. But we don't have travel insurance & I've no idea if chicken pox would even be covered? This is our one & only family holiday since last spring & if we lose the money this time, we won't be able to go again this year :( anyone had any experience of having to cancel with CP due to illness?

Not illness but we had to cancel years ago due to weather (terrible snow, no way we could have travelled). They were very snotty about it to start with but eventually agreed to let us rebook as a goodwill gesture. It's not in their T&Cs though and as you don't have insurance I think you would probably be left out of pocket. Fingers crossed you don't get the CP!

We got back 2 weeks ago and saw a child who looked like they had cp in a playgroup there. My dd is now covered and needless to say, I am not best pleased. Please don't take your kids if they have cp even if they are well. Having said that, you can't cancel your holiday just in case. I would go but be prepared to head home if they get them.

Travel insurance ? Check if you have a policy with your bank account or added it at time of booking and whether it could covers cancellation or curtailment. I seem to recall a story of a family who had to postpone due to family member longterm illness and sudden deterioration but got a very unsympathetic response cp.

tortoise so sorry your LO isn't well, you must be furious. For reasons to do with family illness, I'm hyper-aware of children mixing when they've got contagious diseases, so I would never take a child who I suspected to be even sickening with an illness somewhere where they were going to come into close contact with other children, babies and pregnant women - even if they didn't have spots yet. They are both thank fully 100% well at the moment and may not even get it this time or may get it in a few months, but it would be sods laws that it happens the 1 week we are away & then we'd have to come home, lose our money & not be able to afford to go again this year :( I can't tell online if chicken pox would be covered by travel insurance, it's such a common illness and like you say LIZS they can be shitty over far worse things.

Don't panic just yet. My ds was exposed in close contact to chicken pox at least 6 times (one time a few hours before dn came out in spots, lots at nursery etc.) before he did actually get them. It might not be your turn yet.

10 to 21 day incubation period IIRC so fingers crossed they won't get it yet.

Also chickenpox had been going around my ds's small nursery (about 15 kids) since before Christmas and there are still about 5 kids who haven't caught it yet.

If you take out cancellation insurance with Center parcs (you have to have actively clicked on no insurance in the booking process if you didn't) Chicken Pox is covered... along with a whole host of other stuff - for the princely sum of £20

(If you did select no insurance, then probably too late anyhow and not now you've spoken to them about it... )

Fingers crossed for you all...

Just an update to say thank you to all for replying - we had a completely spot-free week, both DC on great form & we all had a fabulous time, loved it. So fingers crossed we've escaped the dreaded pox this time :)
