As one of her birthday wishes my daughter asked to go on a mini break with me....she is very much a daddy's girl normally and very jealous of her brother (who is closer to me), so this request is a bit poignant. She is 10. I can't think of where is best to go - she loves animals and theme parks but I a am a total wuss so no good going there with me. She would also like to be hands on with the animals so longleat for example not ideal. But there may be another idea I have no idea of. She isnt into shoppping and manicures BTW (and nor am I for her!) Thanks for your help......

Try Paradise Wildlife Park. They do lots of different hands on experiences.

South Lakes Wild Animal Park is also quite hands on.You can hand feed giraffes and lemurs.

Does she also like birds?
Lots of falconry centres will do owl sessions with children her age

Stay in Chester and visit Chester Zoo. They have a wide range of experience days where you get up close to the animals, have a look at their website.

Many thanks for the ideas - will look into all of them

If I was planning something like this I'd go for Port Lympne (in Kent), which has various cottages, huts and glamping tents where you can stay overnight. The Pinewood huts are brand new and look lovely (right by the lions and tigers...) and I've seen people there doing feeding etc. so sure hands-on experiences can be part of it.

farm stay? when are you planning to take the trip? if its easter then you will need to get a move on but you would see baby chicks and lambs.

Horse riding holiday maybe?

You can pay for close up experiences at a lot of zoos so check them out, although there are age restrictions.

Hi I'm in a similar situation. My littlest has asked for a stay on a farm for her 7 th birthday. It needs to be in the North as we only have a few days so we can't travel far. Can anyone recommend a working farm please ?
