Looking for a half term break for husband's birthday with our 2 boys (5 and 3). I like the look of the log cabins. Has anyone been to any of their sites? And would you recommend? It is pretty expensive - especially as it's half term therefore 3 times the price as the week before Shock

We stayed in the one in North Yorkshire near Pickering. The cabins are lovely and we though it very nicely set out so that you are not overlooking anyone else and therefore have a feeling of privacy.

Log cabins are awesome.

In fact, I've just got back from driving through to see the ils at one near pickering.

Hoseasons have a good range.

Ooh, 5foot5, I wonder if it's the same place...

Sounds like it

We stayed in the two Scottish ones. Both v nice. We stayed in a Copper Beech for three nights on one site then a Golden Oak one for four nights on another site. The Golden Oak one had just been built and was v v nice.

Both sites were lovely but we preferred the Strathyre one - better cycle network and lovely scenery. The staff were really welcoming and helpful and the little coffee shops on site are great. All v clean and private. We had a great time!

Stayed in a pet friendly one in Yorkshire, with no pets. It was a filthy sh*t hole.

Supposed to be top of the range cabin - we had to spend the first night washing all the crockery and cutlery, mopping the floors, rinsing the greasy bin and fridge and cleaning the toilet. DS walked across the floor when we arrived and his socks were black. Full of pet hair, including the mattress. Even though they stated pets were not allowed upstairs, there were claw marks in the stairs. Had only four days in the UK and we were stuck with it.

Some of the cabins were very close together and our blinds in the bedroom were hanging off the rail. So not really the "away from it all" experience we expected. We were supposed to have a games package in the cabin - it was a scrabble box with half the tiles missing. You had to pay an extortionate amount to use the logs for a real fire, or suffer those hideous Economy 7 heaters. Front of hot tub balcony was covered in cigarette butts and bottle caps, and empty bird feeders?!

DH left his IPod on the bedside table, dashed back to get it an hour later and the cleaner (because apparently there was one) denied all knowledge of it.

Receptionist were mardy and the shop prices were breathtakingly expensive - and I live in Switzerland! Grin

Only upside was the hot tub, overlooking the slimy dirty decking to get to it!

Read the tripadvisor reviews - cleanliness comes up time and again. If you do want to go ensure you select a specific cabin. The one next to ours had new leather sofas and looked far cleaner. Sad

Sorry I can't be more positive. We paid a fortune and we were gutted.

I have stayed in the log cabins run by the Forestry Commission in Deer Park, Cornwall and near Pickering. Both lovely places for families and really quiet. Very clean and provided lots of baby equipment on request.

We stayed at Griffon Forest near York and loved it

We stayed in the one in the forest of dean and loved it so much we went again the following year, and that was just the basic cabin.
