Where do we go?

Max height 1000 m peak, no more. 700 is perfect. Or 10 km walks through scenic beauty.

the south west coast path is lovely to walk at any time of year. theres a lot of it so you can pick and choose. if not base yourself somewhere like porthmadog in wales and plan walks from there.

South Downs? Peak District?

Sleeper to pointy bits of Scotland?

Interesting suggestions. I had not thought of going all the way to Scotland, nor coastal walks in Wales! Excellent!

I cant find any tickets on that sleeper train, though.

Brecon Beacons. It has everything you want and more.

QuintessentiallyQS · 30/08/2014 10:50

Best, you would not know where in the Beacons, any specific villages, guest houses good for a family of 4?

Hi Quint. I live near Swansea so tend to be a day tripper. However I do love Hay On Wye, Monmouth, Crickhowell, Abergavenny which could all be good as a base though at the north/east edge of the beacons. Or around Brecon itself, Betwee there and Sennybridge. There is also self catering accom at Dan-yr-Ogof.

Thanks, I will check out those places. Any place that does not have the proprietor out in a hot flush (and rushing out with bin-liners to save precious carpets) upon seeing us nearing their entrance with muddy boots is good in my book. Grin

(As if we would enter and trample through with muddy boots anyway. Hmm )

Herefordshire, so you could do the Malverns, Black Mountains, Forest of Dean areas to mix up walking and some mountain biking perhaps?

QuintessentiallyQS · 30/08/2014 19:27

Oooh, I want to do Malverns next weekend, the Brecon Beacons for half term now!
