Boston Lincs next week, what do see and do ?

I am camping with the children in a Pod just outside Boston Lincs next week, I have never travel to the area before and would like recommendations of places to visit, things to do etc.

The Boston stump.
It's a church, nothing much else round those parts.
Skegs not to far for a trip to the seaside.

Boston. Some people find the tidal river interesting, I hear. And, erm. The Stump, yes.

There's also the bus station and a train station, thank goodness. Tattershall Castle is nice.

We have a caravan next to Tattershall Castle, that is nice. If you have ever tried geocaching, there are quite a few in Boston.

Ah, right. I think I know where you're off to. Looks lovely. I'd not bother with Boston TBH.

You'd be at least as close to Horncastle (1001 antique and junk shops) and really quite close to Tattershall and Coningsby (should you be interested in RAF stuff) which are also close to Woodhall Spa which has a nice lido and woods.

The Parrot Zoo is worth a visit

Woodhall spa has this funny little cinema called the kinemainthewoods, old fashioned and quite a fun cinema to visit.
In Boston itself not so much to do. Some good fish and chip shops though.

yy the Kinema is really lovely, especially if you can see a film in the original room.

Actually, more/most importantly wherever you go in Lincolnshire please do be extra careful on the roads.

Lincoln is worth a visit - cathedral, caste and lots of shops.

Woodhall Spa is lovely.. Kinema in the Woods is good -check out their website for showings.

Coningsby is surprisingly interesting. Even if you aren't
that into planes (me) it entertained the DC

And yes Skegness is a lovely beach. Nothing fancy in the town, but you can get chips and play crazy golf to your heart's content.

I used to love the seal sanctuary in skegness when I was a child. That was 30 years ago, no idea if it's still there or OK now.

Frampton Marsh and Freiston Shore RSPB sanctuaries are great, the Frampton one does stuff for kids through the holidays like treasure hunts and pond dipping for not much money at all.

Hi thanks for all the replies, the castle looks great. 3dc oldest ds 8 youngest dd nearly three, dd 6. Happiest exploring having a good run, love beach and sea. Might try the lido always had a fancy for that ! Looking forward to just having a proper relax un structured few days really but love fish and chips and a good tea shop !

Good fish & chips in Boston - Tate's fish & chips off Strait Bargate right in the middle of town. Eat in or take out, or if the weather's nice you can sit outside.

Archie Hardwick's on Dolphin lane, off the market place, does a nice cake & cuppa.

Maud Foster windmill is really interesting, if you have cooking facilities where you're staying you can buy some flour ground at the mill and take it home to cook something with - my kids love doing that.

If you go into the town centre then a wander round the Guildhall museum is a good idea, it's not big and doesn't take long to look round but it's free and what they do have is really interesting. The Stunp (St Botolph's church) is a lovely building and you can go up the tower for a fantastic view across the fields.

If it rains, there are a couple of soft play centres, a bowling alley, a pottery place which can keep the children entertained.

Oh thanks Tiger that's great info, windmill sounds great ds loves anything that works iykwim ! Hoping for fine weather but not adverse to soft play !

I'm not sure about Boston. I would recommend Woodhall spa for Jubilee park and also Kinema in the woods. Friskney parrot zoo. If you want to travel further afield then I would definitely recommend Woodside Falconry, it may be too far for You to travel but it is worth it, They have just got some tigers in this year and they are amazing (one of them is Tango, The tiger from the old Esso adverts). You can spend the day there with plenty to do

Would def say Woodhall Spa for jubilee park and kinema in the woods. Depending on the weather there is an outdoor lido in Jubliee Park (heated pool) and quite a few nice cafés and pubs in the Main Street. Kids would probably like Skeg but it can be rough!! Lincoln nice- free Museum at the top of the hill is good, as is cathedral.
