Please can anyone recommend some places to visit in or around Falmouth and any family friendly places to eat? Thank you.

We were there for a couple of nights 2 years ago with 3 young children. Swanpool beach is lovely, Maritime museum well worth a visit, Rick Steins fish & chips eaten on the beach - delicious! Also plenty of 'family' restaurants like Pizza Express/Ask etc, though they do get very busy so it's worth booking. Have fun!

Another vote for Swanpool, Falmouth boat hire is also AMAZING, you cruise along the Fal ogling cruise liners and posh houses!

Thanks. Hadn't thought of a boat trip! And yes to Rick Stein...son loves watching his programmes.

How old are your children?

Trebah gardens (lots of things for kids). Glendurgan gardens, great maze, beach etc.

Maenporth beach is fab.

There is quite a big crazy golf up the road from swanpool.

You could try flambards which is 20 mins from falmouth but can get busy.

The fish and chips from harbour lights are far superior than Rick Steins but I can understand the novelty of it.

There is falmouth week coming up, there will be extra things going on and tall ships regatta at the end of August.

Enjoy!Smile

Rock pooling at castle beach or maenporth when the tide is out.

Or just laze at gyllynvase beach cafe.

Kimberley Park (at the opposite end of town from the maritime museum/Rick Steins) is good. Adventure playground style play park.

joeypoey123 · 04/08/2014 22:59

Don't go to Rick Stein! Awful! Expensive for "fish and chips"
fish a nd chips is supposed to be greasy and in newspaper.

Rant over :P

There's plenty in Falmouth. Lots of shops, boat trips, museum, flambards, beaches.

Pendennis Castle is fab

pickledparsnip · 04/08/2014 23:22

I live in the area. Second all those suggestions! Especially the castle & nearby gardens. A boat trip to Flushing or St Mawes is lovely too. Kim park also fab

Please don't go to Rick Steins, it is shit. A short walk away is Harbour Lights, far far better. Also the Gylly beach cafe is horrendously busy in the Summer, service takes forever & customer service skills aren't great. Cinnamon cafe is nice in the day, Courtyard Deli too & Miss Peapods up the road in Penryn.

pickledparsnip · 04/08/2014 23:24

There are more & more chains opening up. Please check out the local eateries, there are loads to chose from. Support the locals!

pickledparsnip · 04/08/2014 23:25

There is so much to do, it is a fab place. Enjoy!

pickledparsnip · 04/08/2014 23:27

If you're after seafood, I'm told the Wheelhouse is the best. You have to book though.

We are just back from a week in falmouth. The town itself is nice. We went to swanpool beach and a bigger one which I can't remember how to pronounce! We also visited pendennis castle which was quite interesting (but quite expensive in my opinion). We had a fabulous meal at rick steins. I thought it was very reasonably priced. The maritime museum was good and very interesting, the kids enjoyed crabbing there and trying out the rescue boat.
