other than legoland, what else is there to do in or around Windsor?

We are getting the train into London for a couple of nights.

Windsor castle is very expensive it seems.

Any other suggestions gratefully received.

Windsor castle is well worth it, don't go without seeing it!

Walk from Maidenhead to Windsor along the river. Gorgeous trip. The castle suddenly appears from nowhere.

I thought Windsor castle was amazing. When are you going?

I think I kept our Windsor castle tickets when we went in February that entitle you to a discounted return visit within 12 months. We won't be going back this year, so I'd happily pass them on.

We go in a couple of weeks, really looking forward to it.

Is Maud's ice cream shop still there? If so, go for a "poor bear" - the best honeycomb ice cream ever!

Does anyone know of any discount websites for admission costs running at the moment?

Beaconsfield Model Village is in the area, and we also went to Hampton Court Palace when we were there, which was fantastic.

Having read the small print on the back, we should have signed the back of the tickets and got them stamped before we left. That wasn't made clear - we were just told to hang onto them for a free return visit within 12 months.

I'm a bit cross now tbh. They sell you the tickets, thrust the guide book (that you've paid extra for) into your hand and usher you through to security where you're encouraged to pack everything into your bag for it to be scanned. No chance to read the back of the ticket and they certainly didn't mention that the tickets needed to be stamped and signed before leaving for that offer to be valid.

I'd recommend the Crooked House in Windsor, it's a cafe and tea room. It's really quirky and cute.

15 minutes out in the Burnham/Slough area is Odds Farm which is a brilliant day out for kiddies.

15 mins in the other direction, Bracknell has Coral Reef which is a big themed swimming pool with a huge pirate ship, raining raincloud, an exploding volcano, slides and rapids. Bracknell also has a Go Ape and the Look Out Centre

Wow that coral reef place sounds worth a trip on its own!

We went to coral reef the other day. It was the busiest place on earth and the noise was incredible. Wouldn't recommend in the holidays if children are small but fine for bigger ones.

Love tea rooms, hate busy & noise however with an 11 year old & 1 year old, it's inevitable & unavoidable.
