Hi
Our initial plan was a holiday to Scotland in July but my hubby wants to drive which I feel is too long with an 8 year old from London.
We have now agreed on going back to Wales, my hubby fancies Cardigan we would also like to rent a cottage for a week . Has anyone been to Cradigan ? is there lots to do for kids & any recommendations on cottages would be greatly appreciated :)

Wales is lovely. we go to pembrokeshire right on The coaster...loads for kids to do!!

PicaK · 02/06/2014 22:14

Pembrokeshire is beautiful.

Google "coastal cottages" and then ring them as they are extremely helpful.

Seconding Pembrokeshire as it is lovely with lots for kids. Cardigan isn't too far for a day trip either

Lots of people go to Bluestone, cheaper version of Centre Parcs, we have a touring caravan so wouldn't. We went to St David's last summer and loved it, had good weather though.

I live very near Cardigan, what would you like to know? There are many options for cottages, what sort of thing do you like? The nearest beach is five minutes drive from Cardigan, and there are lots of very lovely beaches and smaller coves. We have dolphins, you can go out across the bay with www.baytoremember.co.uk and stand a good chance of seeing them, but if they aren't in sight there are still seals and sea birds. The seals come very close to the boat as they are curious. For an 8 year old there are places to visit like Manor House wildlife park. That is a bit of a drive but my children really like it. Main activities here are outdoorsy and sporty and revolve around the sea. There are some decent places to eat dotted about, a good farmers market in St Dogmaels on a Tuesday with very good jam, goats cheeses, organic veg etc. There are castles around and some amazing ancient burial sites like Pentre Ifan. Happy to give more detailed info if you decide to come.

Oh and Cardigan is on the border of the Northern tip of Pembrokeshire, so it is walking distance, certainly not too far for a day trip Grin. I am in Pembs and can walk to Cardigan in about ten minutes or less.

Thankyou for your helpful replies, we've been to Pembrokeshire my husband fancies cardigan.. I have left it pretty late to book a cottage I've scanned most websites & they seem to be booked... We are looking for somewhere that's near a beach or would consider a farm as we have an 8 year old can anyone recommend somewhere please?
Hellymelly thankyou for your tips their very helpful, I'm getting a little disheartened as finding accomodation is proving difficult we are hoping to go around mid July :)

Carmen have a look at www.underthethatch.com they have quite a few places near to us, and I have stayed in several of their properties and/or know some of the owners. At a quick glance it looked as though there were some free in July. Message me if you are not sure where something is. If you want to camp we have a huge 5m bell tent you could borrow. I will have a think about other cottages etc.

We stayed at www.croft-holiday-cottages.co.uk/ last autumn. Nice pool and a few other family-friendly amenities on-site.

hellymelly · 05/06/2014 14:57

My friend's place, Felin Fach, is lovely. It is free for a bit of July I think. The outdoor space is truly beautiful and they have lambs and chicks now. (They are on under the thatch). They are about ten minutes drive or maybe a bit less, from Cardigan itself.

hellymelly · 05/06/2014 14:58

I also know the family who run croft cottages, they are again about ten minutes from Cardigan, easy to get to the beach etc.

hellymelly · 05/06/2014 16:42

Oh and the Bwthyn Bach here is stunning. Most beautiful garden I have ever seen, and you can stay in the middle of it. This is about half an hour's drive from Cardigan. www.dyffrynfernant.co.uk/cottage/

Thankyou hellymelly, I'm having trouble with availability for mid July most places are fully booked :(

Y Bwythyn Bach is free in mid July, but it may not be what you want? The garden is unbelievably beautiful, and Newport beach is about 10 minutes drive away. I will ask around if you like? PM me if you want to, I'm happy to chat about local stuff!

carmen66 · 07/06/2014 16:57

Thankyou Hellymelly, there's 3 of us & I don't really fancy anywhere too rural. We plan on going middle of July with a budget of about £700 if it exists haha I've noticed some places are very expensive & getting booked up quickly.. I also need home comforts washer?dryer etc.Thankyou for your ideas :)
