Ideas for a weekend break please!

It's DH's 50th birthday in August and I'd like to book us a weekend away, without the DCs, as a present. I'd love to take him to Le Manoir, but it's a little bit out of my league price-wise! I'd be really grateful for any recommendations for boutique hotels with great food. We live in North London, so places within a max of about 3 hours drive would be preferable.

Thanks Smile

What's your budget?

tkband3 · 26/05/2014 19:38

Hmm, probably a max of £1,000 for the whole weekend.

This place is great for food and the rooms are fabulous www.salthouseharbour.co.uk . I have stayed here 3 times and stayed in different rooms, would recommend the sail loft marina room which looks out onto the harbour. Breakfast is served at various times with room service at no extra charge. It is only a 40 minute drive to Aldeburgh which is a lovely traditional seaside town.

What about booking Le Manoir for dinner but staying elsewhere?

It is amazing!

What do you like doing? Do you want to be in a city or countryside?

You'll have to book fairly soon though to get a table.

That place looks fab twostepsister - and has the advantage of being close to my brother so we could drop the DDs off on the way...

I hadn't thought of just having dinner at Le Manoir Samantha...is it close enough to Oxford to be able to stay there?

I think if we're going for two nights, we'd like to be quite close to somewhere we can visit and mooch around - doesn't necessarily have to be a city, but maybe a historic market town...that kind of thing. We're not really 'tramping over the countryside for the day' kind of people Smile.

(Just looked at a map and it's a bit far to Oxford, although handy enough to spend the day hanging out there...)

Do you know The Crazy Bear in Stadhampton. Well within distance, and I can highly recommend it.

twostepsister · 26/05/2014 20:20

tkband it is fab it just has a unique style and luxury vibe about it. The artwork displayed in the restaurant and foyer is designed by Damian Hurst and Vivienne Westwood which makes it feel like you are in a cool London restaurant rather than Ipswich Smile

Hoste Arms or Congham Hall in Norfolk? (i've been to the latter and it's fab)

tkband3 · 26/05/2014 20:31

Wow, the Crazy Bear looks amazing! Will definitely check that one out, thanks.

We go to Burnham Market every year for a holiday, so the Hoste Arms is very familiar to us, but Congham Hall looks lovely.

Thanks for all the suggestions Smile
