Has anyone stayed at the Alton Towers Hotel ?

Thinking of booking a surprise stay with my 12 year old son.
We would be doing the theme park and the water park.

Its quite pricey so want to know how good it is before booking ?

thanks.

We went a few years ago and the water park is good and the theme park good also for a 12 year old. There is a retaurant at the Hotel and also a crazy golf course next to the Hotel. we would love to go again but just too pricey for us with 4 kids ! i think before i got a special offer when the Sun were giving away 2 free tickets and you could book the hotel cheaper then normal.

I went a few years ago as well, I didn't think much to it tbh...there was nothing wrong with it, it just wasn't worth the price - I'd stay somewhere cheaper nearby if I was going again.

We stayed at Splash Landings Hotel a few years ago ,it was definitely not worth the cost ,although the water park is nice . The room was very shabby and not at all spacious .

It's a glorified Travel Inn. Exactly the same room size as your overage standard bed and breakfast chain hotels, except for really garish decoration and bunk beds in each room. Totally overpriced. I don't think we'll bother again.

We enjoyed the park, but only because we forked out for the expensive queue-jumping tickets, which didn't really sit well with me, but then how else do you do all the rides? It was too expensive a stay to spend 6 hours a day queuing for 2 mins on a ride and we wouldn't have got round all of them.

A victim of it's own success I feel. Everything was extra. How on earth can they charge for parking for goodness sake, it's not like you have a choice.

We went to the splash park and theme park last weekend but stayed overnight at a local inn, which was great, would definitely use it again and less than 10 minutes drive away.

stay near by but avoid splash landings hotel. we stayed in it with our 3 in a family room and we were crammed in with peeling wall paper and dirty bathroom. would never stay there again.

Thanks for the info everyone.

Yes think if we go we will stay nearby as you suggest and it will be a lot cheaper.

I've stayed at Splash Landings and the Alton Towers hotel and prefered Alton Towers Hotel. The rooms are a bit bigger and the walls seem more sturdy. Splash Landings is noiser in the evening with lots of young children. The water park and crazy golf are a lot of fun. It is super convenient staying so close to the theme park.

I've stayed in both and although the prices are the same, the Alton Towers hotel is more upmarket than Splash Landings. We pointed out that on our corridor there were people with many more people in the room than there should have been and others taking platefuls of breakfast back to the room for them then coming back for more. I didn't see anything being done about this after we mentioned it. As far as the water park bit goes, it is the link between the two hotels so would make no difference which one you stayed in. Also whichever you choose, you can eat in either. The buffet dinner in Splash Landings is good with lots of choice.
