Is £250 reasonable for SE London hotel for two nights/family of four?

I'm going to a mini festival in Blackheath SE London, in September and there is a hotel (lovely one which I always wanted to stay in when I was a child growing up in the area) charging £258 for Saturday/Sunday night including full English breakfast, for a quad room. The location is perfect for us. Is the price reasonable or do you think we could get better?

I think it's reasonable judging by what else I can find especially as people are going to want to stay in the area, but don't want to book it only to find I can find something better close to blackheath for less money (I am happy to have a small apartment etc, doesn't have to be a hotel, for example).

Is that the Clarendon? (I went to school in the area but moved away a few years back so not sure if it's there any more.)

I'd imagine that there are cheaper places a bit further away. After a festival even a half hour walk in the suburbs wouldn't be that bad and of course Blackheath's well connected by bus etc so there should be a travelodge or premier inn nearby?

Staying right in the centre of Blackheath might be a bit noisy/lairy if you have to go to bed before the festival finishes?

wing go to bed before the festival finishes? Shock I don't think so, Massive Attack is headlining Saturday and Frank Turner is headlining on Sunday, and my children can sleep through an earthquake Grin if for some reason we left early. I love the idea of falling straight into the hotel whenever we are done, or popping back for a break if we need one, middle class festival goers that we are Wink (you know, prefer not to rough it Grin)

There was an apartment just up from there, looked awesome, not sure how much it was, but it was filled just as I started looking!

I used to so want to stay there as a child (yes, Clarendon) it looked so swish! Looks less so now, and I am sure my childhood longing will be crushed after finding it's just a bog standard slightly tired hotel!

I will see what else is about, any suggestions of places that are easy to commute to? We could walk into Greenwich through the park etc (if it's open) or by the side of it, Or toward Blackheath Standard direction (is it still called that?), I know I don't want to go toward Lewisham, Charlton, Woolwich...

oh, and Premier Inn in 'Greenwich' is actually in Deptford…I don't think so. And the 'bigger' hotels in Greenwich are all £300 or more for those dates.

The Clarendon is a little bit tired but the location is fantastic and so close to ONBlackheath. Tbh I think that's a pretty good price for the pure convenience of it.

Bunnytheeggrobat · 17/04/2014 22:58

Yes that sounds entirely reasonable

PavlovtheCat · 17/04/2014 23:05

lucid exactly. We are only going to be sleeping there and having breakfast/chilling out and it's literally on the doorstep. We normally camp/yurt it so actually a hotel in itself is a treat for us, we don't mind tired, don't really need luxury as long as it's clean, comfortable, and accessible from the festival with an 8yr old and 4yo old. I also have a disability which affects my mobility so walking long distances is not an option, although I am not afraid of public transport (it will be busy though I am sure).

I have booked the one with cancellation options for an extra £20 to give me a chance to look around, no payment needed in advance, and it's mine. Adds to it, but probably a good idea.

I have found a premier inn for £175 for two nights, Greenwich High Street - how far is that from Blackheath common? It's probably going to be quite busy to get there from the festival at 10-11pm with everyone else using the buses? I remember once walking across the common from Blackheath station to Greenwich as I got on the wrong train thinking it went to Greenwich but it was the cannon street train, and it took me fucking ages!

I know it's £100, and that is a lot of money, that would pay for most of our weekend, BUT, the convenience is what appeals to me. No farting around, just there, I mean, if we were lucky enough to get a room with a view we could probably watch it from there Grin

Sounds good to me.

PavlovtheCat · 17/04/2014 23:07

oh and the premier is £8.95 or something each for breakfast per night, so that's another £40 for the adults, not sure how much the children would be but maybe £60 in total for the breakfast? (well, we would go somewhere else…)

lucid you sound local - you going? Grin

pavlov Greenwich is down a pretty steep hill so walking may not be best option if you have mobility issues? And yes buses will be rammed.

I am local Grin and would love to go but DC2 due on 8 September so not sure I'll make it!

PavlovtheCat · 18/04/2014 18:09

lucid steep it not good, thanks for the headsup! I would say that's cutting it quite fine for having a newborn/giving birth while watching Frank Turner Grin
