Recommendations in Cornwall/Devon?

Inlaws will be having youngest DD for three days in April and we will have those days to ourselves as other DD will be away with her other grandparent - Cue fanfare! As the youngest DD will be in Cornwall we don't want to wander too far astray to keep the driving down and if need be get back quickly for her (DD has ASD and grandparents are usually very good with her).

We have stayed in Senna cove, been all around the south coast of Cornwall, stayed in Newquay, Boscastle and Bude. Is there anywhere else that you would recommend in Cornwall or even Devon? We love the sea, are quite open to quirky/unusual accommodation and just want to spend the three days having fun, letting our hair down and reconnecting with each other.

Any recommendations?

In the '60s for a few years our family had month-long holidays from London at Treen or Porthcurno.

Now we live in Devon (don't know why you say 'or even Devon'!) and there are masses of great places. The South Hams has good coast, heritage steam lines, Dartmoor; Totnes and Dartington for the 'arty' stuff; river trips on the Dart; easy access to Plymouth for shops and theatres. Lots of good National Trust properties. Avoid Torbay (Torquay, Paignton, Brixham) as too crowded. Dartmouth and surroundings interesting.

North Devon coast also good, though I don't know it very well.

Hope you find somewhere good.

If you are open to quirky, how about one of the cliff-top chalets/cottages at Whitsand Bay (Rame Peninsula, just outside of Plymouth/Torpoint)?

Or Burgh Island Hotel, on Burgh Island, Bigbury (nr Kingsbridge, Devon)?

I'm a local bird, so haven't stayed at either place, but they both fascinate me!

Hi, we've just booked here for summer holidays

Our DS has ASD, so wanted a good play area and trampoline, pool is a bonus. I only found out when booking that the farm is on the NAS website as an ASD friendly holiday location.

I love Croyde! Shouldn't be too busy at that time of year either. Beautiful place.

There's a new place opening in Devon near to us in April called Puddleduck Valley (www.puddleduckvalley.co.uk). They are have ponds where guests can fish, a yurt, holiday cottages etc. They also have goats that I think are due to have babies this spring.

ThompsonPhil · 28/01/2014 16:52

oops link doesn't work. Try www.puddleduckvalley.co.uk

Senna cove? Is that like Sennen Cove, but with more regular tides?

mary21 · 28/01/2014 18:15

Fingals near Dartmouth (Dittisham)????

ceeveebee · 28/01/2014 18:17

I second the Scarlet Hotel, its child free so take advantage!

SparkleSoiree · 28/01/2014 19:43

Thank you for the suggestions, it's better to work from recommendations. Smile

NarfOrf hahaha! No it's your version of Sennen Cove! I obviously had something else on my mind at the time!

St Ives is lovely. I'd definitely stay there just me and dp. St Agnes again lovely very small not a lot to do bit good for a short get away from it break. Perranporth has a fab beach and some good walks. Quite touristy and family minded so maybe not for an adults break.

In Devon woolacombe is lovely and croyde is nice too a little bit quirkier and 'nicer' than woolacombe.
