MOVING TO BATH -(or thinking about it!)

Cam anyone advise me about living in Bath? Are there good facilities/things to do for the under 5's? I notice on the map there is only one main park but are there lots of playparks around the city? Which is a really nice area to live in which has a few chi chi shops, a deli - that sort of thing - and easy to walk around with a pram away from too much traffic?

I'd really appreciate any advice anyone can give me!

Many thanks in advance.

Maybe you should put this in Other Subjects, rubyone, and more people will see it.

I live in bath with two little ones and the one thing that really p-me off is the traffic if i want to get to the shops there's a road to cross if i want to go to one of the lovely parks there's a road to cross, i come from birmingham you would think i had seen another traffic but i suppose its because i have children now. sorry about the moan its a nice place other then the traffic!

joelallie · 04/07/2006 20:33

I agree about the traffic....but it wasn't designed with the motor car in mind. I reckon they should totally ban cars in the city centre at certain times. It's a beautiful city but cars are a total pita.....and TBH driving in Bath is a total pita too. They have a park and ride but not big enough and I think people should be forced to use it.

Can't help with the orginal question sorry! Not been to Bath for a few years and never really considered in the light of children. Nice place though...

i use to live in bath and moved as i found it a hideous place to live, the only thing good i ahev to say about it is that it looks nice on tv, the bad points
bad schools unless you are paying
a huge amout of drugs circulating the city
boy racers worse than most places
lots of crime hence the grug issue
bad parking
etc
i moved when my first was 1 years old as i did not want him growing up there

Hey noma. I live in Bath now, and am originally from Birmingham!!

rubyone-I have lived here for the past 8 or so years, and I love it. Coming from Birmingham, it's a massive improvement. There are lots of things for little ones to do etc. I agree that the traffic is horrendous, as it's a city not really designed with cars in mind. (You soon get to know of all the good shortcuts etc though)

As for the crime/drugs issue. I agree that Bath has its problems, but no worse than any other city. I'd far rather live here than Bristol where all those sorts of prolems are much worse. I feel much safe here than I ever did in Birmingham.

There are areas of Bath I wouldn't live in (Whiteway, Snow Hill, Foxhill being 3 of them) but on the whole, I think it's a great town, if expensive.

You could move to the surrounding area - that's where I come from originally. Places to think about are malmsbury, Box, Corsham, and even Chippenham - although it's not that great. here are some lovely villages around the area as well.

Every city has it's problems. I live in London and I generally feel safe. I think it;s as much about your own attitude to a place as it is about the place itself.

add to the list twerton, odd down, weston as places not to live

intergalacticwalrus · 06/07/2006 13:32

I live in Weston, it's lovely. No problems here at all.
