MOVING FROM USA TO UK

My name is Norma and I was born and raised in New York City, USA. I have lived there for 21 years before I moved to a small town called Nesquehoning, PA, USA. From the big city to a small country town. My husband and I are thinking to move overseas. We decided the England would be a great place for us to live. We are currently trying to have a baby. So planning to have the baby before we move and was wondering which area would you suggest that would like to find somewhere similar with good local (not private) schools, a slightly bohemian feel or diverse, green spaces where the kids could play when older, and friendly liberal people to make friends with. Any suggestions? What are the nursery waiting lists like around there? And how tough is the competition for primary school places? And Jobs? Colleges? Renting apartments fees? What the procedures of becoming a citizen in UK?

Oh, I would, London, and have.

Both. Politically is Conservative and also conservative with a small c. May have drastically changed in the last few years but somehow don't think so.

Londonbus - Louisiana has a population of 4.6 million compared to the Uk having a population of 63 million, the uk has a population of 53 million and Greater London a population of over 8 million. Landmass doesn't tally with road systems as some USA guests found when they landed in manchester and picked up a hire car to travel south to Birmingham and said they would be there in an hour as the distance is so small - four hours later and having used the M6 for the first time they found it wasn't as they expected

OP
Clifton is considered a "good area", but it's over-rated in my opinion. Apart from pretty buildings, designer shops, and posh restaurants, it doesn't have much to offer. Also very expensive.

But the thing is due to the designer shops, pretty buildings and posh restaurants it will have better schools and you will not play such a lottery getting your dc into a better school.

I know plenty of £10 poms who had never visited Australia before they went, one family came back and then went again Grin

It's all well and good property-shopping and talking about schools and nurseries (for a child that isn't born yet), but if you don't have a legal means of immigrating it's a moot point.

Ivykaty that is my exact point in a nutshell.

I have heard this: What is the difference between the Americans and the British? The Americans think 100 years is a long time and the British think 100 miles is a long way".
