We'll have 2 1/2 days and 1 full day.

Does anyone have any suggestions of the best things to do at these ages - also any ideas of places that I might not know of (having only been to London 3 times in my 37 years!)

Which part of london will you be staying? Sometimes easier to take that into account before planning. Usually a cluster things of things you can do in specific areas e.g. Science museum, natural history ,useful and v and a all in same block.

River ride from Tate to Tate, or greenwich is fun.

Southbank always fun to stroll along - lots usually happening there

Greenwich area good for museums, Cutty sark etc

Museums as listed above

You also need to decide if you want to focus on free museums, or pay for entrance

Regents park or similar good

Go online to time out which has loads listed as well as childrens activities.

Natural History Museum
Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green
Walking up the Monument (may be too much for the 5 year old, depends how much stamina he has)
Transport Museum
Diana memorial playground
London Zoo
Science Museum

You absolutely definitely must take them to HMS Belfast at London Bridge. And that part of London (near Tower Bridge, Southwark Cathedral, Shakespeare's Globe, Borough Market and Tate Modern) is one of the best areas for a general walk around before or after.

We'll be staying very close to Tower Bridge.

We'll look out for as many discount vouchers and use Tesco club card to fund as many entrance fees and restaurant bills as possible!

I'm going to have to get a map and plot where all of these things are - my geographical knowledge of England's capital is dreadful!

I definitely would add a vote for Transport Museum! I've been there without kids and (as I am a big kid myself) it's great! Very interactive and fun, lots of buses and trains to climb in and out of, and constant entertainment for kiddies.

Might also be worth visiting one of our lovely parks to give the kidlets a chance to run around? Have fun!

Yes, the transport museum looks great so it's good to hear that it is as good as it looks.

Hopefully the weather will be good so we can be out in the fresh air a bit too.

Going to book train and show tickets tonight I think.
