Any ideas?

No car, so everything has to be in walking/ public transport distance.

Nice weekend away for 2 adults,

Just want some nice pubs and most importantly somewhere nice to stay!

Thanks

SwedishEdith · 08/02/2013 17:39

YOu can get a direct train to Hereford- that'd be lovely for a short break never actually been-

MommyConlon · 08/02/2013 17:44

We have family in Chester, don't want to feel we have to go visit them, sorry if that sounds awful, but its been a long time since we've had some time alone and don't want to have to turn down rellies who will want to meet up!

StaticSockMonster · 08/02/2013 18:10

How about Derbyshire?

SwedishEdith · 08/02/2013 18:11

Shrewsbury?

Follyfoot · 08/02/2013 18:15

Mmm agree with Derbyshire but am biased. You can stay in a cottage on the Chatsworth estate, do you fancy that?

Or how about Hexham? Or Whitby?

Foggles · 08/02/2013 18:23

York.

One and a half hours by train.

Trains every half an hour from Manchester Piccadilly.

bowyert1 · 09/02/2013 16:35

Glossop! Half an hour, platform 2 Piccadilly and some lovely hotels and b & bs. Wind in the willows is gorgeous.

Edinburgh? Beautiful this time of year.

cockneydad · 10/02/2013 09:38

I'd go for York - great city, easy to get around on foot / by bus.

Emandlu · 10/02/2013 09:40

I'd say Durham, train straight through from Piccadilly, beautiful, historic little city yet you are literally minutes from countryside even when you are in the centre.

andadietcoke · 10/02/2013 09:41

The Lakes? Glasgow train via Preston.

MarianMaudsley · 11/02/2013 12:43

Clitheroe? pretty little town, lots of nice places to eat.
Skipton is lovely too - everything in walking distance, beautiful castle, canal, buses up to the Yorkshire Dales National Park (takes about 30mins) although you'd need to change trains in Leeds.

scissy · 24/02/2013 11:34

Cheltenham? (Bristol cross country train, takes 2 1/2 hours) Georgian spa town, good places to eat and pubs in town.

CaptainSweatPants · 24/02/2013 11:36

Windermere or Penrith / Keswick

Manchesterhistorygirl · 24/02/2013 11:36

Windermere. Dh and I went there last year, we had a lovely time. Lots of walking and we found a really nice pub that we would go back to. We stayed at hillthwaite house hotel and got a good deal through a groupon type company. It was lovely to just 'be' for a couple of days. Smile
