Staying in a hotel with an 8mo

It's my DH's birthday in October and we both need a break. DS is 8mths old and sleeps in his own room. We'd love to have a weekend hotel break somwhere with a pool so DS can have fun with us and go for nice walks etc.

Thing is, I'm a tad nervous about DS sleeping in the same room because it means we can't watch tv or even chat as it'll wake him up. Also, when he naps in the day we won't be able to do much if in the same room. I've looked at hotels with interconnecting rooms and they cost a fortune. Not sure what to do. Does anyone know of any nice spacious hotels which are baby friendly and don't break the bank?

Would consider staying local - west midlands and Warwickshire or even a trip to Wales maybe

Really need a break as it has been a tough few months

I don't know of any specific places but have you considered self catering - a 2 bed cottage or apartment? As long as you avoid half term holidays it shouldn't be too expensive? You could go for a big lunch and them but nice things to eat at night

Self catering or leave the baby at home. Babies in hotels are fine - but you have to give over your stay to what they need.

I wouldn't mind self catering but DH wants a proper break with room service etc.

I think it sounds like DS would need to be in the same room and we just adjust our plans a little

Well each to their own but I personally would rather stay in a cottage and get a takeaway delivered then sit in the dark eating room service!
Some hotels have self catering apartments/lodges in. Or a 2 bed suite.

Things that worked for us: (1) an apart-hotel, where you have a separate living space to the bedroom. Loads of cities have them now, eh? Eg 'the place', or the light hotel or saco apartments (all in Manchester).
Or (2) hotels like Sands resort in Cornwall. Rooms have various configurations so baby can safely be in adjoining room without compromising your lovely adult time Smile.

Try this website: I even found a place for you in north Wales

I and DH would much rather have our own room and a bit of private time that room service.

Alternatively, some hotels -ahm, mine-- have Junior Suites: a bedroom, bathroom and living room. Baby down in the travel cot in the bedroom, you two order room service up to the living room.

Oh some fab suggestions!

That you ceevee. I'll take a look Smile

Goldplated, what hotel are you suggesting?

An apart hotel is a good idea too

We often use this hotel in Baslow. It isn't cheap, I don't think, but we like the rooms in the far wing where we can tuck the cot into a sort of alcove/cupboard between the door and the bathroom and pretend that the room is our own.

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 18/09/2012 20:42

Ah we are in the North East, so maybe not quite the area you are looking for.

TheSurgeonsMate · 18/09/2012 20:48

Oh. Just read OP again. No pool at the Cavendish. Apologies.

SIL was talking about a hotel (devon way I think) that has baby monitoring in each room so you can go to the restaurant (table linked to room number) while receptionist listens to monitor and you get contacted if there's noise. Or you go to the bar with a buzzer.

You might not be comfortable with the idea but it's an option out there.
