Try one of the Tune Hotels, there are a few in different locations. I put in a random date in September and it was coming up with prices from £55-85 a night. I haven't stayed in one in London but we stayed in their hotel in Kuala Lumpur (less than a tenner i think!) and it was clean, nicely furnished and comfortable but on the small side. It's a bit like Easyjet, you have to pay for extras but worth staying on a budget.

During university holidays the student accommodation isn't too bad and the breakfasts are good... think it was £30 or £40/night for an en-suite double room. You also get access to kitchens etc., if you want and the canteen in the place we stayed didn't bat an eyelid at people taking fruit etc. out of the room.

They also offer in-term accommodation, which I think is more expensive, but is definitely under £100/night.

Have a look at the Premier Inn in Victoria. I paid £85 a night last week.

I always stay in cheapest travelodge, premier inn type place that i can find when we go to London so would suggest googling these and finding who is nearest where you want to be. stayed at a fab one next to Liverpool street station for the olympics. the city is deserted at weekends so could sleep with window open and very little street noise below. right near the tube lines too.

The YHA places are very central and offer family rooms. You can self-cater in their kitchens and save more money!

The Premier Inn at Westfield Stratford is very good. Brand new (if it hasn't been trashed by the Olympics!) and the transport connections are great - DLR at one end, central and jubilee at the other - oh and it is right next to a Waitrose. We paid £108 in total for a family room for 2 nights (friday and Sat) in May.

I didn't want to be so far out at first, but it turned out not to be an issue.

Travelodge, Ibis, Premier Inn are all where you need to be looking for under 100 quid (that isn't a 2* potential dosshole at least). Although you can get reasonable bargains via lastminute.com on their mystery hotels, they will normally be c. 100 quid a night.

EasyHotel Barbican! Got a room for £25 during Olympics! It's in a fab area, 5 mind walk to tube and it's still pretty new. You don't get a tv but if you're just looking for a bed it's perfect! Rooms are bigger than other easys in London too.

I would second easy hotels - love them.

Holiday inn Express at Earls Court - Family room was fine, it was clean and handy for getting into the centre.

bubbles1231 · 16/09/2012 00:06

Easy hotel. bargain but rooms can be tiny- somewhere to sleep and that's it.

amck5700 · 16/09/2012 00:13

...and the Holiday Inn gives you a free breakfast - it says continental, but it does sausages and beans too and it was actually ok - we filled up and that kept us going easily until lunch. By the time you add on the fact that you need to get some breakfast on to some of the really cheap ones, it doesn't work out that cheap anymore imo.

Another vote for premier inn here, stayed recently at the islington one and it was great!

Another fan of YHA. we got a room for 2 adults, 3 children in the city YHA hostel just round the corner from St Pauls at £89 a night at the start of July.
