Dorset - Seaton, Burton Bradstock, or Charmouth?

I've found a few cottages that tick the boxes for our week mid-August. They all seem OK, but none of them are staggeringly fabulous so it comes down to location.

Does anyone have any opinions to share on the above town/villages please? I've never been to any of them, so I'm tempted to toss a coin.
Two other possible locations would be Langton Maltravers, just outside Swanage, or Lyme Regis itself.

Thanks

All lovely! Not much in charm outs. I love Beer

Never been to the others but I love the beach at Charmouth

Out of the ones you've mentioned Lyme Regis has the most to do but will be very busy. Seaton is nice but a little on the tacky side. Charmouth beach is nice but there's nothing else. Don't know bb.

Thanks all. Anyone else got any thoughts? We may just have to toss a coin - I hate decisions like this, they drive me mad.

Agree with everything BulletProof says.

Personally we love Lyme Regis, it is quite small, but lots of little shops, cafes etc. They also have a regatta week in Aug, a friend of mine stayed there for that week and said it was fantastic.

BB is a beautiful beach/village, I think it's owned by the national trust, again very busy but only a handful of shops/cafes.

It depends what your family enjoy.

Seaton is shite. Lyme Regis is lovely. Don't know the others.

I would say if you've got a car don't worry about location just choose the cottage that you like best, then you can drive to visit all places.

LottieJenkins · 19/07/2012 08:21

I agree that Charmouth doesnt have much, the beach is beautiful though but is very busy! We went a few years ago and Wilf disapeared up the river in the dinghy and had to be rescued! Blush

Thanks chaps. I'm none the wiser really but it all sounds very nice. I'll make DH choose.

Depends when you are going. Lyme regatta and carnival week starts 3rd August. We go every year with the Dc cos its fab and rarely use the car that week as so much to do in Lyme. Seaton has the tramway but apart from that is grannified. Charmouth is quieter than Lyme, great fossil hunting and only a couple of miles from Lyme. We like to stay in Lyme itself because I find it stressful trying to park in the busy summer period. Also you can make the most of the weather and be on the beach at the first glimpse of sun. If you stay away from the beach too often the rain has started by the time you get there! Good luck!

Langton Matravers.

Blu · 19/07/2012 16:38

Lyme Regis, as long as you have a cottage with it's own parking, or BB, I would say. Beach at BB is lovely, and it has fab cliff top walks. But then so does Charmouth.

What sort of things do you like to do on hol?

I also loved Beer - beautiful village and bay, brilliant rock pools - shingle beach.

DilysPrice · 19/07/2012 16:50

We won't be there for the carnival unfortunately.
We're Londoners so we want a bit of peace and quiet and a beach and some fossils and ideally some sunshine (though obviously you can't expect miracles). I want a combination of countryside and being able to walk to the shops for a pint of milk. The Charmouth and BB cottages would both be a doable walk to the beach I think, which is a plus.

Burton Bradstock is great - family friendly with Hive Beach Cafe on the beach. There's a website with accommodation www.burtonbradstock.org.uk
