cottage holiday in Ireland

Hi, we are thinking about having a cottage holiday in Ireland next august, can anybody recommend any nice areas, we'd like to be near a coast maybe and would have to be child friendly. It would need to accommodate around 10 people. Also which ferry crossing would be best?
Sorry its a bit rambling, we really want to go but no idea where to stay :-)

Just marking place, can't answer now, will get back on this eve.

I prefer stena line to irish ferries - cash back on quidco as well
get at least one seat in the first class lounge - well worth it for priority boarding (and free drinks and nibbles!)
dublin port easy to get in and out of

Ooh, we're going to Ballylickey in August skippy. Any recommendations for things to do or places to eat? We'll be taking a three year old and nine month old (and also my parents so might even get out for an evening!).

Sorry for the hijack!

Meant to say there's two three bed cottages in the same site so should be enough room. It really is my favourite part of Ireland and I've been to most of it at this stage

Hi i rented a lovely little cottage in Newbridge, Co Kildare, it was beautiful and centeral to everything we wanted to do.... It was with cottages4you.co.uk/com. It really was lovely, and very resonable x

Oh there's tonnes, OConnors on nearby Bantry is a great seafood restaraunt we went there with two under 2 and it was fine. Mannix food emporium in Ballylickey is a great little deli specialising in local meat and cheese and wine. A boat trip out to garnish island is amazing as there's beautiful botanic gardens and there's some amazing little towns nearby clonakikty is one. Kinsale is about an hours drive but absolutely beautiful. There's so much to do I wish I was going back

Thanks skippy - that's really useful. Sorry I've only just come back to the thread. I was in West Cork a few years ago but didn't really explore the area much.
