Butlins Bognor Regis

Hi, Has anybody been to Butlins Bognor recently?

Hoping to book a last min deal for the first week of July monday to friday. As we all need a break and some quality time together. My children have never been before, they are 3 and 4 and they love Haven which is where we have previously been. Went to Pontins and most of it was closed and it was rubbish! Although cost us £40 so I guess that's why!

Anyway, wondering whats the best package to get. It's going to cost about £50 extra to swap from a standard apartmet to a dinner, bed and breakfast deal which seems the best value as we would hardly need any spending money but worried about the dinners and if they will be good enough. My partner is quite fussy with foods and doesn't like a lot of basic family meals - he likes high standard fancy crap that we can't afford Hmm where as me and the kids would probably be quite happy with the meals there and it would be more of a break with no cooking/washing up. With a full English for brekkie and a 3 course dinner we could probably just do snacks instead of lunch which we could bring from home.

I would be grateful of any feedback anybody can offer.

Hi Lilly, I have just come back from butlins at bognor. I went with my husband and 2 children aged 2 and 4. We stayed at the shoreline with breakfast and dinner.

Hotel was good - just like a new travelodge type - not fancy but clean, modern and with everything you would need. room service was brill. hotel staff super helpful and friendly. we ate at the hotel for dinner and breakfast. breakfast lovely - continental buffet or cooked breakfast (which only my husband ate and he said it was 'very salty'.) we had porridge, pancakes, croissants, fruit, cereal, toast etc etc. I am the world's greatest tightwad so I made sandwiches out of the breakfast buffet and pinched yoghurts, fruit etc for our lunch. there are places to eat on site but just pub food or pizza or takeaway style stuff, which didn't appeal to us at all.

dinner was the same format every night: help yourself buffet with a curry, a chinese, a traditional english and a veggie. plus there was soup and salad. and a starter which was usually pate or similar, then puddings, or icecream for the kids. It was filling and fine, nothing super amazing at all, but certainly not poor and the staff were fab, the restuarant was clean and comfortable. we ate until food was coming out of our ears every day. drinks are extra btw. I'm pretty sure if you didn't want to eat at the hotel they give you a voucher to eat elsewhere which may be better. I also think there is the option to pay a bit extra and order nicer food, but you might want to check that.there is also a kids buffet which they claimed in the brochure was annabel karmel but when we were there was pretty much smiley faces and beans and fishfingers or lasagne, so again fine but nothing amazing.

the skyline pavilion is where everything goes on and the worst bit are the arcades which look tacky and horrid but if you can ignore them the shows are fantastic for kids, the redcoats worked harder than anyone i've ever seen and there are loads of free rides, a big soft play bit etc. my kids absolutely loved it, and i'm a snob but once I sucked that up I had a great time too.

we spent £80 in total spending money. there are lots of rides that cost a pound or two on top of the free ones, and snacks, photos with the characters etc so you could spend loads but if you're careful you could get away with nothing.

it was my first time going and we had a great time, despite my great misgivings when we booked it!

meant to say we went in term time and it was pretty busy - i would imagine in school hols it will be horrendous!

Thank you! We booked it in the end, we have a silver room with breakfast and the basic dinner package. Said it's a 3 course meal but if it's a buffet I don't quite get that bit but whatever. Ours say that it includes unlimted soft drinks and tea and coffee so maybe different to you as we are not in the hotel. I hope that bit is correct though as I drink loads with dinner so would spend a fair bit on drinks if it's not included.

I did wonder about it being busy. It seems they have added 3 hotels to the existing accommodation and still have the same size everything else. I think if we ever go in the holidays then we would go to minehead or skegness as I don't think its as busy as I don't think they have hotels yet.

That's great that you only spent £80 - I would be happy with that. I will probably end up buying some photos but hope not to spend much else. We are going to bring lots of snacks and hoping to get away without buying lunch stuff - we managed this when we went to Peppa pig world in April, had buffet hotel breakkie, snacks for lunch and then went out for dinner.

The kids don't know we are going yet. DP said he would pay etc but on the condition the kids know nothing about it so they get a nice suprise. I don't really agree as I love the whole build up excitment but as he has paid (he isn't their Dad) so I can't complain.

Can't wait to see the kids all excited - they love watching shows etc so I am sure they will love it!

Bit cheeky you still have to pay for some rides when they advertise a free fun fair!

there's looooooooads that's free though, the outdoor funfair definitely is mostly free, but my 2 yo was too small to go on lots and my 4yo is a total chicken so wouldn't. and a lot of what we spent was on snacks and drinks so you'll save loads by taking your own. there are some things that are free but have to be booked, like the character breakfasts and while we were there there was an I Can Cook roadshow which was free. I hope you have a good time!

whatinthewhatnow · 26/06/2012 16:36

oh, and the swimming bit is amazing for kids in terms of water slides, wave machines, fountains, waterfalls etc. and that's obv free too.

LilllyLovesLife · 26/06/2012 18:25

Thank you! Hoping I can do it all as currently suffering with awful all day pregnancy sickness!

I hope it has improved since my one and only visit in 1971 when I utterly hated it! :)

We have been three times in the last year for 2 night breaks. To be honest this is all you need as everyone is exhausted after that. We stay in the Shoreline Hotel which has been great every time, we have breakfast there, take snacks in cool box for lunches and eat at the pub on site or Burger King both fine for a casual dinner. Kids get a separate bit of the room in bunks so we can still watch tv when they are asleep. Hotel is exceptionally quiet at night despite being full of small children. We have preschoolers so have always gone out of holidays do never silly busy, kids (DS 4, DD 2) love it, it's is easy entertainment whatever the weather, we are happy if they are. Overall a great break but not exactly a 'holiday' smile

I know you've already booked but I thought you might like to know about this.

Cherrypie32 · 26/06/2012 20:39

FGS, some people.

whatinthewhatnow · 26/06/2012 23:12

yeah, they do 'adult weekends' off season. when we arrived on a monday about 1000 hungover 20 year olds were leaving. they all looked like they might have just finished catching chlamydia.

LilllyLovesLife · 29/06/2012 14:17

Yeah I saw that on BBC news. But it was one toilet cubicle in the night club so won't effect us. DP pointed out it was probably just somebody drunk smoking in the loo or something and set fire to the toilet roll or something! Lol
