South Wales in the wet

We are off to the Brecon Beacons next week with our DS (20mo), staying in a cottage on a farm. I suspect it might rain quite a bit - this will not bother DS in the slightest, as his favourite thing is jumping in puddles, but it might be nice to be warm and dry for at least some of the time!

So... does anyone have any recommendations for days out in south wales with a toddler, avoiding the mud?? I've googled the local swimming pool so that is one option (we'll still be wet but at least we'll be warm), and I think there is a steam train nearby, any other ideas?

Can you be a bit more specific as to where you will be?

The brecon railway is very good, very scenic. A little way down the A470 is Caerphilly Castle, which is fun for running around. Glanmors cafe is opposite and they have lovely sandwiches.
A bit further down again is Castle coch, it's pink!
And of course there is Cardiff.

Merthyr is nearby, it has an out of town shopping place and a castle.

If you are near Brecon itself, just outside the town there is Cantref farm park (warning, website automatically opens video clip with loud annoying music) which my children used to love when they were smaller - soft play plus lots of animals indoors. And nice cakes in the cafe. Of course it's even better on a day when you can do the outdoor stuff too.

Or a mooch around the bookshops in Hay on Wye, and some delicious ice cream at Shepherds?

Thank you for the suggestions :)

We will be near Crickhowell.
