Just wondered if anyone has been. They used to be part of Featherdown farm but are now independent. Just wondered if anyone has any top tips on what we should take, whether it gets cold at night and the need to bring extra bedding etcetera ...... Many thanks!

The Dandelion Hideaway in Leicestershire also used to be part of Featherdown, but the new tents are much more luxurious now with en suite roll top baths! As well as family sized canvas cottages, there is even a tent just for 2 that comes with a tandem. The Shetland ponies and goats on the farm are just adorable and there is lots to do both on and off the farm. Glamping is a wonderful holiday, but always pack wellies and warm PJs - this is England!
Have fun.

Cannot recommend glamping at Mill Farm enough!!! We have just come back from the most amazing holiday there with Farmer Joe and his lovely family. Without doubt the best family holiday we have ever had.

There is a wood burning stove for heat and cooking, providing you with an oven, a very large hob and a lovely evening fire and yes if there is no wood already chopped then you do need to do your own....all part of the adventure wouldn't you agree ?!?!

Hot water on tap, comfy beds, snugly duvets and pillows, eggs most days, wifi when we needed it, rechargeable lanterns for the evenings, fantastic hosts. And for the kids - bunk beds in a mini wooden house inside the lodge, reading bedtime stories by candle light, mini tractors to race around the meadow, a safe environment...and best of all, no games consoles or TV!

Scarlet12 - why did you go glamping when you were clearly expecting butler service in a hotel! Where do you think the "amping" in "glamping" comes from?!?! We won't expect to see you when we return next year!

We?ve just come back from Mill Farm and loved it so much we have looked into returning next year. We were two adults and three young children (aged 5, 4 and 1) and did not need to take extra bedding with us. You had to chop the wood for the stove (my husband loved it!) from the great piles of wood left for the guests in the barn. We kept the stove going for as long as possible at night to keep it warm and whoever got up first in the morning re-lit it. However, had the weather been hotter we wouldn?t have needed to do it anyway. Each lodge has a cool box for your cold items (plus there?s a fridge in the farm shop if you want to store things in there), rechargeable lanterns for at night (keep on a low setting to last), unfortunately the chickens would not lay eggs for us early morning :) but would do so late morning so we collected them then and saved some for breakfast the following day. The canvas lodges are exactly what they look like on the website ? beautiful! The only item I?d suggest you take are some tea lights to keep lit in the toilet at night with some extra matches (although you could always take a lantern in with you). The hosts have thought of everything so I can?t suggest anything else that you would need to bring! There?s a great honesty shop on site where you can buy your essentials plus delicious meat, all very reasonably priced. We were taken on a farm tour by the Dykes, it was really interesting and great to see what really goes on at the farm and we hired the mini tractor for the day ? the 5 & 4 year spent every waking moment on it! Lastly, the family that run the farm were some of the loveliest people I have ever met. We were very sad to leave. You will love it!

This was by far the best uk holiday we have ever had. The week before we were at centerparcs but for us glamping at mill farm was the better holiday - more us! Everything has been thought of to make you have a wonderful stay here, the tents are brilliantly equipped, bedding provided (most comfortable bed ever), and Joe & Izzy and their wonderful family are great hosts. The nice thing here is someone will pop down in the morning and in the evening to make sure you have had a nice day and everything is okay. As there are only 4 tents you get to know people and the dyke family get to know you which gives it a more personal touch. The kids can go and play together in a safe environment and you know that they are allowed to be kids and run around without bothering anyone. The honesty shop is well stocked and there is a farm shop not far down the road which we would recommend. This place is such a jewel that it will get lots of repeat custom in years to come so I am slightly wary of giving it too good a review as we are looking at going back next year and hope there will be a space for us! Anyway, if you like the outdoors but with the comforts of home and no tv just the stars for company in the evening book here as we are glad we did!! A big thank you to the Dyke family!

Hi ladies

great reviews of this farm - have just booked for 4 nights with partner and soon-to-be 1 year old girl - but only time we could go is OCTOBER! didn't really think about potential cold as it looked so perfect we just did it! Any tips for what we may need? Are there plugs so you can plug things in? Can you charge laptop / phone? (I know sounds like defeating object of 'glamping' - but I need / like them!)

Can a travel cot fit next to the bed in the lodge?

Any advice much appreciated!!

You won't regret booking this. There is a wood burning stove which you can use for cooking on and it will keep the tent lovely and toasty warm, the wood is supplied. There is also a guard which you can put all around the stove to stop your little girl getting too close. Ice packs are provided and you will have a big cool box where you can store chilled food. There are no plug sockets but you can by a New Trent charger for about £35.00 which you can charge up from home and the battery lasts about 6 full iPhone charges, brilliant device! I am sure there would be room for a travel cot. Hope you have a great time!

Hi EmilyBoo. The lodge really gets very toasty once the stove has been on for half an hour or so, we tended to light it as soon as we got back from outings even if not needed straight away for cooking as it warmed the place through. (we took one of those gas fire lighter things as much easier than matches when ligting fire) There are also lots of soft throws provided to wrap up in if you do get chilly. The only time we felt a little cold was first thing, so hubby would get the fire going prior to the rest of us getting up, then he would have another 30 mins snooze time. :-) We also all took pj's, or snugly comfy's and socks to wear for mornings and evenings. The duvets are thick and warm so you won't get cold during the night. There is room for a travel cot in the master room or between the 2 single beds in the twin room. Take wellies for wandering around the farm and the tour with farmer joe is a must. Can't think of much else you need really as the lodge is so well equipped although would suggest you take several tea towels as they are not provided and a dish cloth. The honesty shop is great for essentials and there is a farm shop just down the road as an earlier reviewer mentioned. There is also an m&s food shop and a sainsburys in Devizes which is only a 10min drive. Chickens tended to lay eggs after lunchtime so grab them for the next morning. There are 3 rechargeable lanterns for your evening light and we didn't find we needed any more than that (you charge them in the honesty shop during the day and collect them later). We did take a few tea lights with us but didn't end up using them. Have a fabulous time, I feel quite envious as we would love to be going back this year...!
