staying in yha with a 5 year old

this years holiday is on a bit of a budget, so I'm going to book a yha with my 5 year old ds. But I can't afford a family room at £70 a night! anyone any experience of bunk rooms with a young child. They say under 5s to go in a family room but 5+ can stay in bunks with an adult. But what's it like in reality?

Some YHAs have small rooms just for two people, surely they won't be £70 a night? I am not sure you are allowed to have 5 year olds in the bunk rooms - you need to ask theYHA direct. We've had some great YHA holidays as a family of 3 - DS absolutely loved it but we did have family rooms.

thanks ragwort. I checked out another hostel nearby and that has a 2 person room for £40 which I can stretch to :)
thanks!

We've always had family rooms in YHA hostels - only one DS.
There was a code for this summer which had some hostels at £25 a night. Did you see those?

It really depends on the youth hostel as some of the smaller ones do have rooms of 3/4 but I'm not sure how it works.

I agree with Ragwort though - we've had some fabulous YHA holidays. We'll be going again this year. If you want any recommendations, just give me shout!

Hi

YHA has a really great deal on 3 nights in a family room during summer for £99. Some Youth Hostels have ensuite rooms and teh food is great. A 3 course meal for £10 and the kids eat free. You don't even have to be a member. Find the offer at www.yha.org.uk/familytime
