Eden Project from Longleat - feasible? Nice accomodation nearby?

We are going to Longleat for a week in August, and rather than head straight back to the ferry (south Wales), we were thinking of going to the Eden project and having an overnight stay there, before stopping again overnight in maybe Bristol and onwards to ferry (either Pembroke or Fishguard).

Does Longleat to Eden sound feasible? Is it worth the extra distance? Where would be nice to stay (a Friday night) nearby? How bad is traffic likely to be leaving Longleat mid-afternoon on Friday, and heading back towards Bath/Bristol on Saturday mid-afternoon?

And where would be nice to stay, what would be nice to do, etc, in the Bristol/Bath area for Saturday night/Sunday morning? We will have a 6 yr old DD with us too.

Personally I dont think its worth such s long drive.

Agree with Jareth. Not worth such an enormous detour there are plenty of national trust places that are far better and the prices at eden have gone through the roof. Bristol has @Bristol science museum or the SS Gt Britain both of which are well worth a visit. avoid coming into and out of Cornwall on a saturday at all costs unless you like sitting in traffic.

Just had a quick look and I reckon it would take you 3 hours to drive from Longleat to Eden. If you really want to go then stay for a couple more days and do Heligan as well, or maybe stay in the Falmouth area and visit things there.

Also, if it happens to be raining on the day you want to visit, Eden will be HEAVING.

It'll take longer than 3 hours in the school holidays and the Eden project will be heaving. It's a good place to visit but I wouldn't do it in these circumstances.

What about Bristol zoo?

JarethTheGoblinKing · 08/05/2012 15:42

True.

Eden isn't actually that good. Worth a visit if you're in Cornwall anyway, but certainly not worth it in this case.

Thank you all. So a day, or even 2, in Bristol sounds like a far better prospect on an August weekend then.

Any recommendations for places to stay?
