Whitby with toddlers

Heading to Whitby next week, 8 of us including 3 toddlers (1,2 and 3). Weather forecast looking slightly dodgy (as would expect in April!)

What things would you reccomend in the area?

Beaches are fab, wide and bracing (sea really really cold tho).

Lovely walking if that's your bag, no-one about and superb scenery eg up the Esk Valley, Danby and Egton etc; also along the cliffs eg Kettleness and Runswick. You'd need backpacks for the little ones tho.

Steam train is worth a look if kids like that sort of thing. Whitby Abbey very interesting actually - on surface a bit heavy going for toddlers, but there's loads of running about potential and mine at that age (well maybe not 1yo!) were still keen on historical facts if kept simple.

fish and chips in Whitby very good too.

There's not so much of indoor stuff to do is all - I would pray for fine weather for some bracing walks and then hot chocolate and DVDs in front of the fire with fish and chips.

Do the open top bus tour (but inside obv if freezing!) - it's actually quite interesting & you can get a lift up to the Abbey, if you can't face the 199 steps, then hop back on an hour later.

Pannett Park is nice...recently re-done play area.

My DD (2.5 last summer) loved the boat trip on the Endeavour replica (from the harbour) - but again, you'd need to wrap up. She also had a whale of a time at Robin Hoods Bay, fishing in the rock pools - she couldn't have cared less that it was wellies and waterproofs weather, and neither did I once I'd fortified myself with hot chocolate and cake from one of the many tea rooms

If the weather really is appalling, then you're not far from the sea life centre at Scarborough, which I love. It's pricey, but you can nearly always get a deal if you look around in advance (WHS have been giving out 2 for 1 vouchers recently)

Have fun, I love Whitby Smile
