Glasgow or Edinburgh - short break with kids

smellyfeet · 28/03/2012 21:26

My brother and sis-in-law are planning to take their kids (4 & 8) to either Glasgow or Edinburgh over Easter.

Which has more stuff to do with the kids? And what kind of things?

TIA

never been to glasgow but edinburgh has

  1. the zoo
  2. the castle
  3. the children's museum
  4. the national museum
  5. a grassed area in the centre of it where you could have a picnic

get her to look on dayoutwiththekids.co.uk to see what's in each area for ideas

Edinburgh - the Zoo, the castle , the sealife centre

I'd go to Glasgow every time; there's loads to do, it's cheaper and the people are friendlier.
(We've done short breaks twice to each city, and I prefer Glasgow every time.)
The Science Centre is superb.

Glasgow has a great open top bus which will drop off at the science museum amongst other places.

roisin · 29/03/2012 22:08

and when we visited the drivers of the open top busses were really friendly and chatty and gave us loads of advice of where to go, how to get there, what we would enjoy best, etc.

Our only disappointment with Glasgow is the fantastic huge Borders which used to be there, is not no more.

Last time we were there we had a fab time in the Kelvingrove and had a nice meal in the restaurant there too.

Glasgow defo! Transport museum, Art Galleries, Science Centre, open top bus fab! And as has been said already people are friendlier!

gLASGOw most defintly, science centre, new transport museum ( which is free) kelvingrove ( free) trip on the clockwork orange ( underground, it goes round in a circle, so you never get lost ), scotland street school ( designed by charles rennie mck, done out in victorian style, fab and free )

House for an art lover , pollock house loads and loads to do. plenty of parks.

Always warmer than Edinburgh! Edinburgh is a bit "fake" in terms of being touristy, whereas Glasgow is a "warm" friendly place with real people.

Stay at the Mint ( Hilton Garden now I think ) and you can walk to science, transport musuem etc.

I like day trips to both. Both have lots to do. Check out the days out with kids website for local attractions
