Isle of Skye and Isle of Mull - driving tours

Hello,

can anybody suggest driving tours of the Isle of Skye (1 day, will stay in Dunvegan for 1 night) and of the Isle of Mull (1 day, starting from Oban, where we will stay for two nights).

Should I book a ferry for the car from Oban to Mull, or I don't need to (this is during Easter break)?

Thank you!

Love love love Skye, so much so we got married there.

Recommend the Qaraing ( not sure of spelling ) road cuts across, single track and lovely scenery., and anywhere. at the top of skye is spectacular. The road from Uig around kilmuir to staffin is lovely and you can stop off at Duntulmn castle ( it a ruin on the cliffs) and then Flodigarry hotel for lunch ( was good 12 years ago, dont know about it now) Then down the coast past the kilt rock. Further on go past the rock formation the Old Man of Storr and then through the cuillin mountain range.

Avoid Broadford ( not great ) and also portree I personally dont like! I prefer the off the beaten track places and portree is a tourist trap!!

Skye is may favourite place on earth, esp Sligachan in front of the Black Cuillins. Not sure why exactly Dunvegan should be a stop off. It only really has the castle and that is not exactly pretty.
Skye is much bigger than most people account for the the roaming roads don't make for high and safe speeds. If that is your itinerary it does sound pretty hard on the driving and not much fun.
There is a path into The Quiraing which is beautifully pre-historic in atmosphere, with eagles flying off the high ridge.

Thanks for the suggestions. I chose Dunvegan because there weren't many hotels/BandBs left in Skye by the time I booked, but there was still space in one in Dunvegan.

Do you think it's going to be very hard/long to drive from Dunvegan to Oban? I was thinking it should take 3-4 hours overall, leaving in the morning, stopping very often to admire the scenery, and getting to Oban by 7 pm. Does it sound reasonable?

Thanks!

I think your timescale is good, travel in the highlands from my experience always takes longer than you expect, so what you are thinking sounds good.

I think your base at Dunvegan is fine, certainly good to see the rest of skye en route to there and then you can travel around trotternish peninsula, which I think is the best area.

Ive never understood people thet go to skye and go no further than broadford!

Hope you have a lovely time
