Anyone been to St. Ives Bay Holiday Park?

Hi there,

I am from Scotland and I am planning on going to Cornwall for either a week or two weeks in the summer. Someone has recommended St. Ives Bay Holiday Park. We would use the chalets, not really into caravans. We have never been to Cornwall before, havent really done UK holidays, but my little girl, aged 2, has allergies so we would prefer not to fly this year...

Anyone been, any reviews?

Thanks in advance, any info (or indeed, other recommendations) would really be appreciated :)

Yes twice now!

Beach is lovely, but access awakward (lots of steps and a hill, not suitable for pushchairs) but you can drive down if you want to.

Within driving distance there is a lidl, m&s, next, boots (I think some other shops but cant remember) as well as a mc donalds and a fish and chip shop.

I didn't stay in a challet, so am not too sure about them but when thwy say basic they mean basic (the caravan we stayed in was) we had to take the kitchen and Duvets pillows etc.

The swimming pool is nice but nothing special there is a children's bit seprated by a wall (no slides or anything)

The on site shop is well stocked, we didn't go to the bar or restaraunt so can't comment!

Overall its a really nice place if your looking for somewhere peaceful to relax, if you want adventure or activities its not what your looking for.

(we went both times at the beginning of September and stayed in the mirmaid caravan and camped)

Thanks! So much info, thats great.

Good to know that there are so many shops etc nearby, with my dd's allergies we will need to do some cooking when we arrive, and mcdonalds is the only place really that she can eat out, so a huge plus! Bit dsappointed about lack of activities but my dd will only be 2 so thats not a huge issue. I do like nice accomodation so we are considering a cottage/apartment elsewhere, but then they wont have swimming etc in site so still really considering the holiday par.

Have you been to any other holiday parks that you could recommend?

St Ives Bay Holiday Park is a few miles out of St ives itself and you will need the car to get about but if you want a decent self catering apartment I'd look on Owners Direct or Holiday Lettings. Some of these places will be more expensive than St ives Bay HP, but you'll get a lot more for you money!

If you stay in St Ives itself, make sure you get somewhere with parking - as it is a real problem during summer. personally, I'd rather stay in Carbis Bay which is about 1.5 miles away and most properties have good parking. There is a little branch line that a two year old will love and gets you into St Ives in 2 minutes (its much cheaper than parking too!) but make sure you stay on the seaward side of Carbis Bay for easy access to the train station & beach. There are plenty of places only a 5-10 min walk to the beach & you won't need to use the car at all & can save a fortune in parking fees. You won't get much self catering with a pool, but you can buy daily passes to Tregenna Castle Lesiure Club and also St ives Leisure Centre - both have good pools & gym facilities & are an ideal way of getting the poolside fun. Carbis Bay beach is ideal for a two year old as it doesn't get as busy as the beaches in St Ives. There is a shop, cafe, toilets etc., you can't go wrong!
