Unusual stuff to do in London

DH and I have a week in London in March, child free. We haven't been to London for years and years. Both like walking, love history, and the list so far includes Geffrye Museum, Borough market, Kew, Kensington museums. Would like recommendations for slightly off beat stuff (i.e. NOT London Eye, Tussauds etc), and any good cheap cafes.

Also, not a cafe and not cheap but Chez Bruce on Wandsworth Common does fantastic value lunches. It's got a michellin star but because out of town (albeit 15m from Victoria) it is soooo much cheaper and totally and utterly worth it. You'd have to book. The Common is beautiful on a clear day for a walk too and there are some nice pubs for a drink.

Ah, I miss London!

Yes to Sir John Soanes' house, which is remarkable. Also, v near there is The Hunterian Museum, which is excellent (pickled brains, lots of bones etc).

I like The Wellcome Collection near Euston station too - and they have an excellent bookshop. Oh and The Old Operating Theatre.

Hoummus Brothers on Wardour Street is a great cheap cafe, if you like hoummus!

I can't wait to see the Scott exhibition - am obsessed with Scott, Shackleton etc! :)

breakfast in centrepoint....eggs benedict is amazing! As is the view!

we went a good while back and had the place to ourselves almost the whole time we were there....the staff really spoiled us too.

Had some lovely and inexpensive tapas, well it would have been inexpensive aprt fro the amount we scoffed, the wine and liqueurs. Navarros in Charlotte Street as recommended here.

Have contributed to your other thread on the same subject, OP. Here.

climb up the steps inside The Monument, they give you a certificate of the achievement afterwards Smile

Eat at Gaby's Deli (Charing Cross Rd, very near Leicester Square). It has been threatened with closure and replacement by a chain restaurant by a greedy landlord - and is a fabulous West End local institution.

If you like it, consider supporting the campaign to save it.

And when in London, walk everywhere. It is surprisingly easy and you will see everything.

Do you want cafeeee or caff. If we are talking the latter. Raffles in paddington is great or for the proper London experience the regents in pimlico. Regents has been in films and allsorts

Afternoon tea at the charing cross hotel comes in at 20 per head and will keep you full late into the evening.

Now there is the different sides of me. From caffs to afternoon tea.
