I also recommend North Wales. Lovely countryside and beaches and lots to do. In addition to other suggestions I would also mention Greenwood Forest as a good day out.

If you liked Wells in Norfolk you would like Southwold as similar. I love Framlingham castle.

40notTrendy · 29/12/2011 19:46

We loved Southwold and Walberswick. Beaches are a mix of sand and pebbles but we always found a comfy spot Smile.
Really good pubs too, good food, fine ale and cider Grin and found some great beer gardens. Suffolk countryside v beautiful.

Beverley in East Yorkshire - it's a wonderful market town with absolutely loads to do. Not far to the coast etc

This website has a good guide to the area which gives you an idea of just how much there is to do www.broadgatefarmcottages.co.uk/broadgate-farm-holiday-cottages-yorkshire.html

Me, my partner and my little girl went to a lovely caravan holiday park on the North West coast called Ocean Edge Leisure Park.

We normally go abroad but because we now have a young one, we couldn't face the hassle of airports.

The park it sat on a cliff top overlooking Morecambe Bay and the sandy beaches. It has all the facilities that you would expect: www.slholidays.co.uk/Ocean-Edge

There are lots of family things to do in Morecambe, while the local city of Lancaster has loads of restaurants, coffee bars, shops etc.

We booked with a company called South Lakeland Holidays, who have a few other parks in the centre of the Lake District, which I'm thinking about booking this year.

I hope this helps Smile

Dartmouth or Salcombe (drive overnight, it is worth it!).

Agree that Holt is adorable............and if its good enough for Camilla!

We used to like Dorset but shocked at how run down it is becoming (excepting Poole and possibly Chideock of course).

North Wales is wonderful, Abersoch is my DC's favourite place.

serin · 14/01/2012 18:28

Oooh and shall I be the first to mention Clippesby.com Grin

I know of a lovely cottage in North Wales near Dolgellau. It sleeps 5 , Out in the country with lovely views. It's lovely and warm and furnished to a really high standard.

What about sw scotland? No midges. Mull of Galloway has botanic gardens and spectacular lighthouse. Cream of Galloway farm is fab day out- huge kids play area. Lots of cycle paths eg kirroughtree forest park. Quaint towns and even a town full of bookshops if that's your thing.

Yankeecandlequeen · 15/01/2012 17:07

If I didn't live in Snowdonia I'd also visit for a holiday!!! Its very pretty here - oh & it doesn't always rain.

I love Center Parcs...so I'm off there tomorrow!

nannipigg · 20/01/2012 16:08

Robin hoods bay is lovely and then you can go off to Whitby and York etc, but be lovely and relaxed away from the crowds on an evening

bibbitybobbityhat · 20/01/2012 16:11

Sidmouth in Devon is a magical place.

nannipigg · 20/01/2012 16:31

I love Buddle Bay and Bamburgh too, but they may be too close
