Can anyone find me the perfect cottage - Suffolk probably?

We're a family of 5 and I'd love to find somewhere really old/roses round the door/thatched quite possibly!/lots of flowers in the garden, but with a non-chintzy interior and (not that I'm being demanding here!) stuff for kids in the garden - trampoline or swings. Am thinking somewhere on the Suffolk coast like Southwold which I don't know but have heard is lovely. But I'm not tied to that location. Near the coast fine as well, as it would be great if it was really rural & quiet, down a little lane with no other houses nearby.

Now, has anyone stayed anywhere like this?! Obviously I'd be prepared to compromise a little, but this is my dream for next summer!! TIA! Grin

accidentally galloped through wandered past land near here recently and thought 'nice place for holiday' (if you don't live nearby already I mean)

MitchiestInge · 06/10/2011 14:19

better link hopefully

PreferredPlanet · 10/10/2011 10:59

Sorry to come back late to this - Mitchie, that looks utterly divine, I think I might be pursuing that one! There's lots of others on the website to consider too - many thanks! Grin

Thanks again for those links. I'm getting a better sense of the place now - I've only ever driven through Suffolk to Felixstowe to get the ferry before!

Am I right in thinking that the most sort of beautiful/genteel/quaint part is the area Southwold/Aldeburgh/Saxmundham bit of the county?

Aldeburgh and Southwold are very quaint. Saxmundham more of an everyday town, not pretty (I know it well as my Dad was from there).

I would say Southwold is your best bet, more to do for DC (pier, sandy beach) and lovely shops/cafes for yourselves. It has an upmarket feel.

Or Walberwsick (near Southwold) , a very small quaint village with a sandy beach.. renound for its crabbing.

It is a lovely part of the Country.. enjoy.

we call Aldeburgh (and Southwold) Islington-by-the-sea and it's not meant as a compliment although they are of course much much nicer places than any bit of London - it's a reference to their population and un-East Anglian attitudes, like the people of Bildeston who complained about the hunt clattering down their high street

south Suffolk countryside is beautiful, and edging scarily into Essex there is Constable country etc

Moonfleetme · 15/10/2011 19:23

hi you may love moonfleet in dorset. see www.dorsetseaviewcottages.com beautiful!

PreferredPlanet · 16/10/2011 12:31

Moonfleet I holidayed in Dorset as a child and have fantastic memories of Chesil Beach, Weymouth, Lulworth Cove etc ... I would love to take the DC and we will go one year, definitely, but it's just soooo far to drive from oop north, Suffolk is just a bit less time spent enclosed in a hot speeding metal box Grin.

Am still deciding ... peaky, the best of suffolk website is brill and I've been in touch with a guy there ... thanks again, am just narrowing it down and hoping my choices don't get snapped up before we decide! Smile
